Updates 7/9/24 - Microsoft & Firefox Tuesday
Today is "Microsoft Tuesday" --- the SECOND Tuesday of the month --- on which Microsoft is expected to release its monthly cycle of Windows security updates. Based on previous history, they should become available at 1 P.M. [USA - Eastern DAYLIGHT SAVING Time]
Please use Windows/Automatic Updates to determine which updates are applicable to your particular system.
Firefox should also be joining-in with an update.

Firefox Version 128.0, first offered to Release channel users on July 9, 2024

Firefox can now translate selections of text and hyperlinked text to other languages from the context menu.

For users in the US and Canada, Firefox will now show your recent searches or currently trending searches when you open the Address Bar to get you back to your previous search session or inspire your next one.
- Firefox now has a simpler and more unified dialog for clearing user data. In addition to streamlining data categories, the new dialog also provides insights into the site data size corresponding to the selected time range.

Firefox now supports playback of protected content from streaming sites like Netflix while in Private Browsing mode.

Firefox now supports the experimental Privacy Preserving Attribution API, which provides an alternative to user tracking for ad attribution. This experiment is only enabled via origin trial and can be disabled in the new Website Advertising Preferences section in the Privacy and Security settings.

Be careful...
Firefox 128.0 installs with Website Advertising Preferences enabled by default. I don't want any part of this, regardless of how "private" and "anonymous" Mozilla and advertisers claim it's supposed to be. Sooner/later somebody will find a hack to get at the full data set... I've disabled this option on the Tools>Settings>Privacy screen in v128.0.
And there's a "typo" in the new "Translate selections of text and hyperlinked text to other languages from the context menu."
When you highlight a section of text and right-click, the menu option says "Translate section to English". But what if the selected text is already in English? You don't get to pick the starting and destination language until after you select that option. So the menu should just say "Translate" or "Translate section". 😜
