subscription of macafee

I have macafee virus guard that it came with my laptop. The subscription must be ended now because i have bought this laptop around 2 and 1/2 years ago. In 2012 december.  Now my virus guard is showing that i have another 600 days of protection. But 2 days ago i got a email from macafee that my subscription has ended . 

I dont understand. How could that happen. 

My worry is  that did somebody hacked into my laptop ??. and change this to show that my protected which im not ?? so they can remotely control my laptop ??

And another problem my macafee account is showing that i purchased a subscription 2013 also which i didnt. how could this happen ??

please tel me did somebody hacked in to my lap ?? do i need to worry ??

Yes, safe to uninstall them. Just make sure you have some antiviral software running. Windows Defender comes with Win 10 and is free.  There are other free and paid apps too.

Go to McAfee's site and find their removal tool. Use that to uninstall McAfee fully so there are no remnants left over.

Did you get a the first McAfee subscription included with your original purchase? If you got the PC in Dec 2012, the subscription might have started in early 2013.

If you registered your subscription at the McAfee site, did you perhaps sign up for automatic renewals? They might have sent you an email to remind you the subscription was ending, but then it automatically renewed, if that's what you signed up for...

I do agree 600 days (20 months) is an odd number for a subscription.

There are phone numbers on this page for Dell customers to contact McAfee customer support, though the problem described on that page is different than yours. Still, someone who answers at McAfee should be able to help you figure this out. Have your Dell order number or customer number handy when you contact McAfee.

Alternatively, assuming you registered the software at their site, you could also log in to their customer support page to review your account info.

Seems unlikely somebody is spoofing McAfee using malware.

Yes when i purchased my laptop it came with Macafee. 

I may be sign up for automatic renewals but the thing is there were no credit cards with money to pay the bills of Macafee. And i havent recieve any email regarding automatic renewals. 

Following are the subscription details.

Don't know how long a subscription was included with the PC purchase but this looks like a total of 40 months.

It appears that McAfee expired in June of this year. So you might not be protected. Suggest you contact McAfee asap and see what their records show.

Or if you don't want McAfee, you can uninstall it and install Microsoft's Security Essentials (Win 7) or Windows Defender (WIn 8, Win 10) which are both free. Or one of the other free anti-viral software apps.

So u think that Macafee false subscription dates due to hacking attempt of someone ??. 

Btw is there a way that i can use a antivirus software lets say kaspersky along with windows defender or security essentials ??

Im using winodws 10 now

I did not say that. I said you should contact McAfee directly to check the status of your subscription. 

You should not run more than one antiviral app on the same PC. They will conflict with each other and cause all kinds of problems. So that's not a solution.

If you're concerned about malware, go to spywarehammer.com for free expert help to check your system for any infections.  Register there and read their instructions to create a new thread. Be sure to include the PC model and version of Windows in your first post, as well as what you consider the problem to be...

I have the trial version of McAfee that came with my Windows 10 PC.  I don't want it, and didn't pay to activate it.  System settings shows McAfee LiveSafe and McAfee WebAdviser as present but unavailable. During normal web access, the Site Advisor and McAfee Update keep trying to gain access.  They're driving me nuts interrupting doing simple banking or research on known commercial sites (popped up twice while I typed this post).

Is it safe to simply "uninstall" these apps?  Posts re: earlier versions of Windows indicate a multi-step process is required.  Dell was no help.  Their live chat gave me a number to call that doesn't answer.

Thank you to those that assisted.  The mcafee-removal-tool.com site provided concise instructions, then was used to download the removal tool, and it worked on Windows 10 as our moderator indicated it would.
