Panda arranging "controlled upgrade" from v16.x.x to v18.0.1

After NOT automatically updating users for the past year or two, Panda is finally arranging a "controlled upgrade" from versions 16.x.x to version 18.0.1   [Presumably this also updates 17.x ???]

The following was copied/pasted from http://support.pandasecurity.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=6313&sid=279ac3f7de63ccc03261069cdc665e12

[On M]onday, May 15th we will publish a controlled upgrade for the "old" Panda Free Antivirus versions 16.x.x to the new version 18.0.1 based in Panda Zone.
If anybody experience any problem related to the product interface, please install .NET Framework 4.0

I was not pleased when Panda automatically foisted this "controlled upgrade" (from 18.0.0 to 18.0.1) on my systems without my explicit permission. Particularly since Panda apparantly no longer releases changelogs for new versions of its AV. I looked into Panda's settings, and do not see any option to accept or refuse program updates.

That said, I don't see any obvious changes in the GUI or operation of Panda Free.

I'm not pleased by anything that automatically updates... particularly if it includes an automatic reboot (where open/active files can be "lost" if not properly saved)...

but I find Avast even more annoying, since it includes an option that users can choose for MANUAL updates (only)... but nevertheless, will automatically update if it believes such an update is "beneficial" for users (who they deem don't know any better).

I have 18.0.0 on (at least) one system, and 18.0.1 on another, without issues.   But I had downloaded/installed them directly, rather than having an automatic update.

I'm still waiting to see when/if I get the anticipated automatic update on any of my systems.

I got a pop message that Panda wants to apply a new update, which must be version 18.x.x.

Currently have 17.x.x. Has anyone let the new version install, since it apparently secretly downloaded.

I finally received the automatic update on two of my Panda systems... both of which were problematic.

On one, Panda decided it was going to download/update itself while Windows Updates was in the process of rebooting the system!   That alone shows why automatic updates, and automatic reboots, are unacceptable.

On another, it's possible that I "jumped the gun", and, thinking that Panda's installation was complete, I decided it was time to reboot the system.

In both cases, the first sign of problem was that the Panda taskbar icon was "invisible"... there was a placeholder for it allocated in the taskbar, but like a piece of glass, you could see right through it!   Searching the hard disk for the icon confirmed it was missing.

On the first system, an additional issue was that the counter of scanned files simply showed zer0.

So I decided to uninstall and reinstall Panda on both systems.   Furthermore, I decided it best to do so on my remaining Panda systems, lest any of them suffer the same problem.
