Dell Stylus stops working

Hi,

I have a Dell Stylus pencil for my Dell Venue 8 Pro.

Everything worked fine until last friday. Now I'm not able to use the pencil.

What action I've to do for solving this issue ?

The Dell Active stylus is compatible with the Dell Venue 8 5830 and shouldn't be any problems.  Here are instructions in replacing the battery:

If the version of your Venue 8 Pro was the 3945 which uses a capacitive digitizer instead of an active digitizer like the 5830 does then there is likely nothing wrong with the stylus and you may want to try a capacitive stylus.

If you do have a 5830 please let me know if replacing the battery didn't help, it requires a AAAA battery.

I am assuming that it is just the pen that is not working and the touch screen is fine, is this correct?

This document goes over using a stylus with Venue Tablets. It goes over what type of stylus will work with each specific model of Venue and basic troubleshooting steps,

To get the best performance from your stylus and tablet, follow these useful tips:

• Make sure you have a fresh battery in the stylus. Most active styluses use a AAAA (quadruple-A) battery. Passive styluses do not require a battery.

• If you experience erratic stylus behavior, try removing the battery and replacing it. This will reset the stylus itself.

• Clean the stylus tip. Dirt or debris accumulating on the tip can affect the performance.

• Some tablets are shipped with a Mylar protective sheet over the screen. For best tablet performance, remove the Mylar sheet.

• If performance is not as expected, be sure to check for Microsoft OS Updates, BIOS updates and driver or firmware updates for your tablet. Restart your tablet after updating to make sure that all updates have been applied.

This Microsoft document goes over pen and touch settings in Windows 8.  I suggest going over calibrating, and changing Pen and Touch actions and see if you can get the pen working.  Please reply back if you continue to have problems.

Hi Terry,

thanks for your reply.

Yes, your assumption is correct.

My issue is Stylus related. I supposed it could depend on battery, but I need to understand where it is located.

I'd like to avoid breaking it for understanding how replacing it. Could you kindly help me how replacing battery ?

I was not able to find video to support me on this task in Internet.

FYI I have a Dell Active Stylus (750-AADH).

Thanks in advance,

I have the Venue 11 Pro (7140) and the new stylus 750-AAGN; I now used the stylus for the first time: when getting closer to the screen / pointing at any icon (desktop screen), the screen gives the feedback with the dot - fine! However, nothing happens when pressing any button of the stylus. A colleague of mine uses a new Surface 3 with a stylus, and he can get the equivalent actions to right or left mouse click by pressing the buttons of his stylus also on his desktop screen.
Is the Dell stylus maybe different? - or is it just a matter of setup?
I tried my stylus in OneNote, there pressing either button works well as anticipated.
Thanks for your help!

You might try holding the button and clicking the screen/an item on the screen--I believe that's how I get a right-click action (I can't recall, right now, if you hold down the bottom or the top button).

Hi Terry,

excuse me for my delayed reply but I had a lot of other priorities which this issue moved to the lowest one.

I solve my issue following your suggestion about changing pencil battery.

Thanks a lot for your support and patience.

I can't believe this problem has not been properly acknowledged.  The design  is defective.  My stylus has been defective from day one.  It stops working and to get it going again I have to unscrew the two parts and rescrew them together several times and then it works again for a while.  Are there any other fine point styluses out there thaf are compatible with the Dell venue 11?

Hello... My stylus stopped working with the Win10 Fall Creator's update. However, when I installed the April 2018 Windows 10 update the stylus functionality returned. From what I read the Fall update (inadvertently?) disabled the stylus, although there was for a time a bit of a workaround using Device Manager. I'm happy to have the return of a working stylus. Regards, Stephen

I had the same issue.  I had to go into Device Manager and re-enable the pen drivers then mine started working again.  Thanks for that.  It was driving me crazy.
