Unable to update my R630 server

I purchased a used R630 that hasn't been updated in a long time.  It is running BIOS 1.3.6 and Lifecycle Controller 2.15.10.10.  To start network connection is working fine.

Because of the switch to http I can't use the firware Update via FTP : Unable to install Updated Packages : SUP0531

My firmware update "Network Share" option doesn't even offer http or https so that is not possible to use.

I can't update the files manually via usb drive in the LC firmware update, they all fail with : Unable to verify the digital signature of the Update Package (SUP0525).  I tried downloading old versions of iDrac/LCC and all of the ones available fail with same error.

I tried downloading and booting "Build and Update Utility" from USB drive.  No matter what the settings I get the following error when the program attempts to run : Unknown interrupt or fault at EIP 00000060 c04011ed 000011ec

I would really appreciate any help.  I have sunk so much time into this and gotten no where. I have no idea what to do.

Hello

Download the 32-bit Dell Update Package from this page:

https://www.dell.com/support/home/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=40t1c

The file name is:

iDRAC-with-Lifecycle-Controller_Firmware_40T1C_WN32_2.63.60.61_A00.EXE

You can then open the iDRAC web server and browse to Overview>iDRAC Settings>Update and Rollback>Update. You can upload the 32-bit DUP from your computer to the iDRAC on that page. Once uploaded there should be an option to apply the update. You should also be able to use that package to perform an update through System Services, I think it is F10 during boot. Once that update is applied you should be able to use HTTPS to perform online updates.

Thanks

When I try to apply the update package you recommended via iDrac I get the following error : RED007: Unable to verify Update Package signature.

Same errors as the other packages when I do it via LC Firmware update as prior : Unable to verify the digital signature of the Update Package (SUP0525)

I don't know what system services, F10 beings me to LC which is the error I stated directly above.

Thank you for your time and help

So I was able to update the BIOS up to 2.7.1 by using the win32 packages and going one release at a time.  I can't get to 2.8, it provides the same error.  When I try via LC : Unable to verify the digital signature of the Update Package (SUP0525)

When I try via iDrac : RED007: Unable to verify Update Package signature.

I tried both win32 + 64 to get up to 2.8 and both had some error.

Please help

It looks like you are experiencing two issues. The latest iDRAC/LCC firmware update adds the ability to use HTTPS, and the 2.40.xx update adds the ability to use higher encryption. The newer update packages use higher encryption that the LifeCycle Controller can't process.

There are several workarounds, any of these should work:

  • Update to 2.40.xx and then perform the latest package update
  • Extract the firmware image .d7 file from the package and apply the update bypassing the package
  • Update through an operating system instead of the LCC
    • Updating through system services(F10), iDRAC web server, or any other iDRAC/LCC method like RACADM will use the LCC.

The signature issue is probably mentioned in release notes or the iDRAC manual. We have two internal KB articles on the signature issue. I'll try to get SLN316137 made public.

Article ID: SLN316137, SLN318395

Thanks

I switched over to updating iDrac manually one release at a time and managed to get it up to date.  Once that happened I was able to continue on updating my bios and, of course, I was able to use dells catalog.

Thanks very much for your help.

I had a bunch of servers to update recently, and didn't want to go through the process of applying a bunch of updates to each server just to get it up to a version where it could be updated from the online server, so my workaround was to extract the latest version of the iDRAC/LCC firmware update BIN file (or EXE), and get the firmimg file from the payload directory.

You can then load/update this through the iDRAC web UI, and it will skip to the latest version, rather than having to step up a bunch of versions. Once you have done this, and the iDRAC/LCC reflashes/reboots, you will then have HTTPS support, and you can use that to download from downloads.dell.com, which will install all the latest updates.

If anyone still has this issue, make sure to confirm that time is right on iDRAC settings and you have Internet connectivity. I was having exact same issue and I found that DNS settings were old and it all worked as expected after I updated network settings with new DNS servers. No need to go through all of that hassle, please check network and time settings first. If this helps, please mark it as solved.

Thanks
