Unable to Uninstall Support Assist in Windows 11

Inspiron 5501/5508

Inspiron 5501/5508

I am a Dell Inspiron User. My device is under warranty and have recently upgraded to windows 11.

When I logged in to DELL Support, entering my service tag to check for updates the first thing the diagnostics wanted to do was to check if SupportAsssist was installed, then proceeded to update SupportAssist, but this update action failed every time I tried it. Then I decided and tried to uninstall the existing SupportAssist in my computer from "Uninstall Programs" so that I could make a fresh install but the attempt failed with the following messages:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'SupportAssistx64-3.10.3.3.msi' in the box below. Use source C:\Windows\TEMP\SupportAssistAgent\AutoUpdate'

' The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it'

If I were able to uninstall SupportAssist then I would reinstall it from scratch, maybe this would have been the right way rather than struggling to install the new version of SupportAssist on top of a corrupt application.

It is a well known issue with the newest version of SupportAssist. There is no real fix that is working overall for this issue yet. So it's up to dell to fix the installer and then the issues we are seeing.

Hi @Mohitg20

Please note 3.10.3.3 version is very old now and latest version of SupportAssist is 3.11.4 please try to update SupportAssist and then let me know.

Please mention your installed .Net framework version also because version 3.11.4 supports .Net 5.0.17

The latest SupportAssist is v3.13.0.236 (rel. 01-Dec-2022). The release notes and user guide for the latest version of SupportAssist is always posted at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca/product-support/product/dell-supportassist-pcs-tablets/docs, and the minimum system requirements posted <here> in the v3.13.0 release notes state that you must have at least Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 and Microsoft .NET Core Runtime 6.0.9. Your installed Microsoft .NET Runtimes should be listed at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features; post back if you need help finding the Microsoft .NET Framework(s) in stalled on your system.

Instead of using the .msi installer try using the SupportAssistInstaller.exe installer available on the SupportAssist for Home PCs download page. Download a fresh copy of SupportAssistInstaller.exe and save it to your desktop, right-click the .exe file, and choose "Run as Administrator".

If that SupportAssistInstaller.exe installer doesn't run to completion let us know what error message you see . It would also be helpful to know your Dell computer model, your Windows operating system [if Win 10 or Win 11 please include the edition (e.g., Home, Pro, etc.), version, and OS build number shown at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications] and your BIOS version [enter msinfo32 in a Run dialog box (Windows + R keys) to open your System Information panel and look for the field named "BIOS Version/Date"].

Way I deleted the slopware:

1. Go to C:\Program Files\Dell

2. Attempt to delete the SupportAssist file (and SARemediation if you want, both are broken bloatware that break your computer for no benefit.)

3. When it says its "open in another program" do the following -

a. Open resource monitor (Windows +R to open Run then type Resmon.exe)
b. Open the CPU tab in the monitor
c. Expand "associated handles"
d. Search for "supportassist"
e. End every process that has it open with the name

4. Quickly shift-delete the files before it reopens (Might take a couple tries.).

No more broken bloatware! (Hopefully, just a heads up but the actual .msi file is impossible to find online, its easier just to remove it manually.)
No Events found!
