SupportAssist said my hard drive was failing even though I've replaced the disk months ago

Alienware M15

Alienware M15

I bought my M15 in 2019, which came with two disks - one 512GB Toshiba NVME SSD and one 1TB Seagate HDD. In April this year, the Seagate HDD showed signs of failure and I replaced it with a new SSD drive.

However, today the SupportAssist suddenly said that my hard drive is failing. This message has popped up 2-3 times for the past few months, but I didn't find any problems at that time. Today, I ran both short DST Test and Long DST Test again on my Toshiba SSD and the new SSD using SupportAssist. The ssd passed both tests. So did the new SSD drive.

I wonder if SupportAssist reported the problem by mistake. Did it think I'm still using my old Seagate HDD disk? The popup message was kinda scary when I don't have any unhealthy disks.

Thanks!

I suspect your hunch is spot on, SA thinks that the HDD is still installed possibly using cached information. If you want to use another piece of software to check the SSD integrity try CrystalDiskInfo available here. I use it to periodically check my drives health.
