Hi samsuzzoha:

If I understand correctly, any application like SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 that is developed specifically for the .NET (Core) Runtime v5.x must have that same version of .NET (Core) Runtime v5.x installed [i.e., the application will not run correctly if .NET (Core) Runtime v6.x and/or v7.x are the only .NET Runtime(s) installed]. I can't explain why Dell would release a SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 update on 23-Jun-2022 that only works correctly with a .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17 that reached end of support on 10-May-2022 and will no longer receive security updates.

In theory, if you do not have .NET (Core) Runtime v5.x installed on your system the SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 installer should automatically install that missing .NET (Core) Runtime, but that apparently isn't happening for many users. See my 03-Aug-2022 post in chriscfox's SupportAssist Won't Install for further information about installation of .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17.

Before you try installing .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17 yourself, you might want to try a clean reinstall of SupportAssist using DELL-Chris M's instructions at SA Uninstall/Reinstall. Note that those instructions require the uninstall of all SupportAssist-related programs (including the Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update, Dell SupportAssist Remediation, etc, if installed) before SupportAssist is reinstalled. I've used those instructions a few times, and I go one step further and use Revo Uninstaller Free in Aggressive mode to uninstall each SupportAssist-related program to remove stray files and registry entries left behind by the "regular" uninstaller (Note: if you aren't familiar with Revo Uninstaller, the Dell Tech Support video at Dell SupportAssist Not Installing includes a list of folders, registry entries and Windows services that you can manually delete after your Control Panel uninstall of SupportAssist to get the cleanest possible reinstall). When I reinstall SupportAssist I always save a fresh copy of SupportAssistInstaller.exe (downloaded from the SupportAssist for Home PCs page) on my desktop, right-click the SupportAssistInstaller.exe file, and choose "Run as Administrator" - for some reason, choosing "Run as Administrator" is necessary on some systems (see Sidscrat's 04-Jan-2022 post <here> for one example).

I also noticed that SH3H4Z posted on 04-Aug-2022 in SupportAssist - Installation Failed Message that they had to disable the real-time protection of their Microsoft Defender antivirus in order for SupportAssist v3.1.4.29 to install correctly. I don't know why the real-time protection of any antivirus would prevent SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 from installing but this might be something to keep in mind.

As I said before, there are so many people having problems installing or running SupportAssist v3.11.44.29 right now - especially those with a Windows 11 operating system - that you might want to wait until Dell releases a newer SupportAssist installer with fewer bugs.  You can use the Dell Update Windows Universal Application v4.5.0 (released 22-Mar-2022) recommended on the support page <here> for your Inspiron 5570 to check for Dell software and driver updates, and if you ever need to run a hardware scan you can still run Dell's F12 ePSA (enhanced Pre-boot System Assessment) hardware diagnostics from your BIOS.

As per your guidance I installed .net runv5.0.17..and uninstalled .net runtime v6.0....

All other Dell software remained installed except Dell support Assist. And now I tried to reinstall Dell support Assist .It is now successfully completed and it is running perfectly.

Thank you for your valuable guidance.

Hi samsuzzoha:

Thank you for your feedback. Glad to hear SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 is running again after you installed the .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17 and re-installed SupportAssist.

One more thing I should mention. Dell employee jbilinski posted on 28-Jun-2022 in Admiral1989's SupportAssist - Installation Failed Message that "Dell TechHub replaces Dell Hardware Scan service and is needed to run the Hardware Scan panel" in SupportAssist v3.11.4.29. If you have any problems running a hardware scan in the current SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 go to Start | Windows Administrative Tools | Services and ensure that the new service called Dell TechHub (which should have been added by the SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 installer) has a Status of "Running".

Win 10 Pro v21H2 Windows Services Dell TechHub Added by SA v3_11_4_29 19 Jul 2022.png

Just out of curiosity, which installer did you use to install .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17? Windows Update automatically installed the 2022-04 .NET 5.0.16 Update for x64 Client (KB5013354) on my Inspiron 5584 back in April 2022 along with my other April 2022 Patch Tuesday updates, and when I browse to https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/5.0 I'm not sure which of the following installers is the best choice for other users who still need to install .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17 on their home desktop/laptop computers. I'm guessing ".NET Desktop Runtime 5.0.17" but I'm not certain about that.

Hi samsuzzoha:

Has your service warranty expired yet?

What is the model number of your Dell computer, your Windows operating system (if Win 10 or Win 11 include the version and build shown at Settings | System | About | Windows specifications), and your current BIOS version (open a Run dialog box, enter msinfo32 to open your System Information panel, and look for the “BIOS Version/Date” field)? If this problem occurs on your Inspiron 5570 then the support page <here> recommends Dell Inspiron 5570 / 5770 System BIOS v1.9.0.

If you go to Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features what is the current version  of SupporttAssist listed there, and do you have a .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17 installed (see image below). Note that this .NET Runtime v5.x is a new system requirement for SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 (see the minimum system requirements posted <here>).  From my Inspiron 5584:

Win 10 Pro V21H2 Control Panel SupportAssist v3_11_4_29 and MS NET Runtime v5_0_17 21 Jul 2022.png

See my 24-Jul-2022 post in aadvanderpol's SupportAssist 3.11.4 Not Working. There are many users having problems either installing or running SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 right now, and if your BIOS is up-to-date and you have the required .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17 installed on your system then you might simply want to wait for Dell to release a newer SupportAssist version that installs correctly and has fewer bugs. As I noted in that thread, I prefer to use Dell Update instead of SupportAssist for checking for Dell software and driver updates, and if I ever want to run a hardware scan I can still run Dell's F12 ePSA hardware diagnostics from my BIOS. My Windows 10 OS also has its own built-in hardware diagnostics at Settings | Update & Security | Troubleshoot | Additional Troubleshooters.

Hi. I'm having the exact same issues when trying to install the new SupportAssist app. The previous version had stopped working so I tried a new installation with no success. I followed all the steps suggested in other posts and in Dell's support official Youtube Channel in order to perform a clean installation. I have a Dell XPS 15 9570 laptop running W11. I tried uninstalling .NET 6.09 but  noticed it was being installed by the SupportAssist installer itself. Have you heard of any further steps to follow?

Thanks

Hi FGDXPS9570:

Please see Dell employee DELL-Nathalia M's 19-Oct-2022 step-by-step instructions for installing SupportAssist v3.12.3.5 (rel. 11-Oct-2022) that were posted in Michael.Strachan's Dell Support Assist Fails to Install. Just to summarize, these instructions advise users to:

  • Uninstall any previous builds of SupportAssist using the Microsoft Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter and restart the system.
  • Uninstall MS .NET Runtime v6.0.10 or higher, if listed at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features, and then install the older MS .NET Runtime v6.0.9.
  • Download and run the SupportAssist v3.12.3.5 installer.

Step # 3 of Nathalia's instructions include a link to the v3.12.3.5 .MSI installer (SupportAssistx64-3.12.3.5.msi) but Delphine R reported <here> that the SupportAssistInstaller.exe stub installer / installation manager downloaded from the main SupportAssist for Home PCs download page can also be used. However, I don't know what Dell computer model or Windows OS Delphine R was using.

If it is true that Step # 2 of Nathalie's instructions to remove .NET Runtime v6.10.0 or higher is a required step then that means that the current SupportAssist v3.12.3.5 installer is not smart enough skip over the installation of .NET Runtime v6.0.9 when a newer (and more secure) version is already installed. In June 2022 Dell released a v3.11.4.29 installer that required an out-of-support .NET Runtime v5.0.x, and now this glitch with the v3.12.3.5 installer.  It's hard to believe these SupportAssist installers go through any sort of proper quality assurance testing before they're released.

No it's not hard to believe, it's unbelivable. They obviously don't have any quality process....

HI, thanks for your help. Unfortunately, thos steps didn't work. I don't have an older version of SA to uninstall since I'm restoring my Windows 11 laptop from a previous install. I used the MS uninstaller from the link, and there are no SA version listed. I coudn't use the MSI installer for SA beause I get an UI error notification. Another user mentioned he had the same issue. The .exe file from the other link provided also didn't work and stopped with an alert message saying SA could not be installed. Have you read any other possible solutions? Thanks again

Hi FGDXPS9570:

This is an old thread about SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 (rel. 23-Jun-2022) that the original poster samsuzzoha solved by installing .NET Runtime v5.0.17. If Dell employee DELL-Nathalia M doesn't reply to your request for assistance you posted yesterday in Admiral1989's 23-Jun-2022 thread SupportAssist - Installation Failed Message in a day or two it would be best if you if you started your own topic here in this SupportAssist for PCs board. Any details you can provide about how you are trying to install SupportAssist and what error messages or warnings you see would also be helpful. Also include your:

  • Dell computer model
  • Windows 11 edition (e.g., Home, Pro, etc.), version and OS build number shown at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications
  • BIOS version. Open a run dialog box (Windows key + R), enter msinfo32 to open the System Information, and and look for the field titled "BIOS Date/Version"
  • Name and version of your antivirus
  • If you have any Killer wireless or Ethernet controllers installed.  See my 30-Aug-2022 post in crimsom's 17 R5, SupportAssist x64 v3.12.5.0 or v3.12.1.180 Installation Invalid about possible SupportAssist issues caused by the Killer Control Center
  • Name and version of any SupportAssist-related programs listed at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features
  • Versions of any Microsoft .NET Runtime listed at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features.  Note that my second image below shows I haven't bothered to uninstall the unsupported .NET Runtime v5.0.17 yet, which was a system requirement for  SupportAssist v3.11.4.29

From my Inspiron 5584 / Win 10 Pro v21H2 laptop:

Win 10 Pro v21H2 Control Panel Dell SA-Related Programs Installed 03 Nov 2022.png

Win 10 Pro v21H2 Control Panel MS NET Runtimes Installed 03 Nov 2022.png

You also said that you are "restoring my Windows 11 laptop from a previous install". I'm not certain exactly how you did that or what other problems, if any, you had that required a system restore, so if you haven't already done so I would run System File Checker (sfc /scannow) and DISM commands like Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth from an elevated command prompt as instructed in the ghacks.net article Use DISM to Fix Issues SFC Can't and then report back if those scans find any issues with your current Windows system files.

If you haven't already done so, go to the Overview tab <here> of your XPS 15 9570 support page, enter your unique Service Tag, and then install the recommended Dell Update  (either Dell/Alienware Update Windows Universal Application v4.7.0 or Dell Command | Update Windows Universal Application v4.7.0) recommended on the Drivers & Downloads tab <here> that matches your Service Tag / system configuration. Let us know if the Dell Update app installs and runs correctly on your system.

Hi, thanks for your help.

These are some details of my computer:

OS Name Microsoft Windows 11 Home
Version 10.0.22000 Build 22000
System Model XPS 15 9570
System Type x64-based PC
BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. 1.27.0, 12/08/2022
SMBIOS Version 3.1

And .NET versions (note that I didn't have v 6.0.10 until a few moments ago, I don't know if it was an automatic update)

FGDXPS9570_0-1667505294170.png

I restored Windows precisely because I was having this SA problem. Obviously, nothing happened.

I followed your suggestion and Installed Dell Update for Windows Universal from my Service Tag suggestions at Dell.com. It installed succesfully, but can't get it to open after restart (as required after install). The app's blue screen remains for a while like processing something and then closes itlself.

I do have Killer Controllers installed, as also shown as "critical" under drivers for my Service Tag. Should'nt I keep those?

FGDXPS9570_1-1667505659725.png

I use Kaspersy Free antivirus, and already tried to install SA with that protection off. No success.

I ran SFC Scan and there were a few corrections made by the service, all with success.

I hope some one can give a straight solution for this. It seems to still be very common.

Thanks again
