Inspiron 5400 AIO, SA, Error code WPE-01 -E84

Ever since I got my Inspiron 5400 AIO 6 months ago, the diagnostic test in SA (SupportAssist) gives out the error code relating to "network card failed". This relates apparently to Realtek and is regarded, I understand as a false positive. In fact, in a 2018 post this seems to have been recognised by Dell and an update to the diagnostic was put in place apparently.

I got fed up with the messge so contacted support which seemed to be a robot and took a long time to navigate. I eventually was asked to do a Dell diagnostic by powering down my machine, then starting up and pressing F12. I followed instructions, did the diagnostic and all the tests were passed successfully. I passed on the validation code which confirmed that the Inspiron 5400 AIO was fine. No hardware or software faults.

So my question is this. Dell must be aware of this problem with SA surely. There are enough posts from concerned customers about this apparent "network card failure". So how about correcting this anomoly in SA? Frightening customers with a false positive is simply not good enough. Many thanks. Other than that, I'm very happy with my Inspiron 5400 AIO.

According to Dell employee @NikhilKiroula 's 03-Mar-2022 post in Mclai's XPS 8940 - PCIE Express - WPE01-EXC:

  • We have received many issues reported from the field where customers observe PCI Express bus error (WPE01) when they run SupportAssist Hardware scan OTB or web.
  • After extensive discussion around this issue with our vendor, and as per them, this issue is related to software where Realtek driver has marked some parameter wrong under registry not as per industry standard which is leading this issue.

I'm not sure, but that sounds like Dell is expecting Realtek to fix their driver installers so that registry entries are configured "to industry standards" during installation.  I have no idea if Dell is actually working together with Realtek to find a way to stop these false WPE01 error messages from being displayed when a SupportAssist hardware scan is run on some Dell computer models.
