Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
Hi,
I bought a Seagate HDD to use it with an external enclosure (Rosewill RX-358 3.5'' SATA to eSATA). I have a Dell studio 1458, running under Windows 7.
I don't know what to do. It doesn't seem to be recognized by the laptop...
Help appreciated!
Thanks,
Nina

Nina,
Which port on the Rosewill external enclosure are you using to connect it to the Studio 1458; the eSATA or USB?

Look in the system tray to see if the device shows up. If it does, the drive then needs to be partitioned and formatted (use the disc manager in the control panel under computer management).

That's what I tried to do, using the disc manager in the control panel. Wouldn't work, it says it cannot proceed because it's not up to date. I tried to refresh, it doesn't change anything. I closed it and re-opened the disk manager, it doesn't work neither. Than i restarted the laptop, still not work. And still not recognized...
But when I plug it using the USB port, it works. I bought it to use the eSATA port though...

Hi Nina,
I'm having the same problem as you with my Dell Studio 1458 Windows7 (64-bit) and iomega external hard drive: it works using USB but not eSATA. I'll see if tech support can help and report back here. You may find posts at the following forum helpful (too technical for me):
