MOM HAS A BAD CD ROM

Hi everyone. I hope you can help me. My Mom  (83) has a Dimension 2100 Celeron computer at 900 MHz. Her cd rom is reading anymore although it seems to spin. I am giving up on it as I am not tech saavy enough to repair it. I would prefer to install a new one. That brings me to my questions:
The cd rom she has  is listed on the invoice as "48X Max Variable cd-rom drive". I looked on her computer and it says she has a "LG CD-ROM CRD-8482B" drive. Can you please tell me what to replace this with and how I gho about getting one? Also, Do I need to worry about geting drivers for it or will it come with it. Sorry for the dumb questions but I just spent 5 hours at her house trying to fix it and I am brain dead now. If there is anything else you can tell me I should know I would appreciate any other help and suggestions. (we missed the warantee expiration by a couple of weeks) Thank you for the help Ed

Hi Ed,

You can choose any drive on the market today, either from Dell or buy Retail; A CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, CD?RW etc..
Installation is fairly simple, click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 4, this has tips on installation as well as Dell Specification pages for a numbers of their systems.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
