Will ESRS create an SR for a BugCheck?

Hi All,

Last night on the same VNX2 array we had a BugCheck and then shortly after a disk failure.  The disk failure automatically created an SR and we got a response.  The BugCheck did not create an SR, I had to create it manually.

Is ESRS able to create an SR for a BugCheck?

This would be more of a function of the VNX alerting.  If alerts are processed by ESRS currently, then that will get sent to EMC.  For an SP reboot, if the alerting is set up properly, it will generate a call home.  It's possible the alerts were combined in to the same request of the disk failure.  Another option is the SR was cancelled by support in favor of the existing call home.  Your local field support representatives can analyze the call homes and determine the scenario.  If you want to send me more info, I can look at this more (ryan.brancel@emc.com).

Also make sure you are set up to receive email alerts from the array to confirm you can receive event notifications like an SP reboot.

Thanks Ryan,

After speaking with my support engineer we did find that the two alerts were wrapped into one.  But it was not easy to see that in the SR online and I only got a proactive notification from EMC about the bad disk, not the SP reboot.  I got both alerts via email locally. I did see a cancel of a "task number" so probably exactly what you are saying.
