RecoverPoint Support

I am running RM 5.2.1 and have RecoverPoint 3.1.SP1 replicating SQL databases to a remote site using CRR and the Cisco SANTap fabric based splitter. My goal is to use RM to create the Bookmarks in RecoverPoint and occasionally mount a Bookmark for DR testing. I was able to successfully add the RPA to the RM console and configure a Job to create the bookmarks.

The job however failed with the following error:
102094 ERROR: Device 0326 was found in consistency group "MCSQL1_CG2", not consistency group "MCSQL1_CG3". Please ensure you have one RecoverPoint consistency group that contains all devices in your application.

So this tells me that RM requires the volumes to all belong to one Consistency Group. The problem is that I cannot use one Consistency Group. We were having performance issues about a year and a half ago and EMC was brought in to diagnose the issue. They determined that RecoverPoint was the bottleneck in our performance issues and the resolution was to break our volumes for the SQL database being replicated across three CGs. I have since discovered many other RecoverPoint users with the same challange.

So the question is, will RM support in the near future an Application Set for RecoverPoint with multiple Consistency Groups? This is a pretty big limitation as most highly transactional applications of significant size require splitting amongst multiple Consistency Groups.

Support for multiple consistency groups per appset is coming very shortly in RM 5.3.

Hello

I am having the same issue and did you get this issue resolved? If so please let me know what the solution was since a consultant we have now who stated that he knows how to get this up and running with Recover Point, SQL and Replication Manager failed badly and now we are stuck trying to figure out how to get this done ASAP!

Thanks

Unfortunately Replication Manager still does not support multiple Consistency Groups in an Application Set. No word yet from EMC on when that support will materialize.

I created my own work around, which was to use RecoverPoint scripts and NaviCLI scripts at the remote site. It still requires a little bit of manual intervention but I was able to automate about 80% of the process through scripting.

Thanks for the update and do you know when this will become available for public use?

We can really use this as we have multiple Consitency Groups based on either individual host and or Cluster group for better overall management and resources.

Thanks and do I wih I could get my hands on a copy of that source code to load up now even if it was for BETA testing since it would make our CEO happy that he can now get real-time up to data when he runs various Reports.

In the mean time what can I do to get this working without having to break up a huge amount of Consistency groups and manage them as individual SQL Instances with Databases, Logs and Moutn Points used.

So what is it exactly you are trying to accomplish at the remote site? There are a variety of scripting options available but I need to know what your requirements are to point you in the right direction.

If you update to recoverpoint 3.3 you can utilize distributed consistency groups and have all your LUNs in the same consistency group for that particular host.

Thanks and we are looking to get it upgraded and just now waiting for RM 5.3 to come out, which will help us for now.
