Boot Fail!

We have a Dell server under warranty with service tag:  <Private data removed from public view. DELL-Admin>.

We have sold to them the server, the first configuration when they bought the server was with 1 CPU ( AMD EPYC 7313).

They want to update the server with a second cpu, with the same identical one (AMD EPYC 7313). When they install the second CPU the server doesn’t boot and it stuck at error: PLEASE WAIT WHILE THE SYSTEM IS INITIALIZING…

The Ram and everything else is OK, once the second CPU is intalled the server doesn’t boot up, everything turns to normal once the second CPU is removed.

Hello,

You can check a few things below:

  • Download the latest BIOS/UEFI and iDRAC firmware.
  • After updating, reset the BIOS settings by clearing the CMOS. Also you can reseat CMOS battery after waiting a few minutes.
  • Carefully reinstall the second CPU, ensuring it is seated properly and the socket pins are intact.
  • Check the BIOS settings for any configurations related to CPU settings and make sure they are set to default or adjusted as needed.
  • Verify that the power supply unit (PSU) is sufficient to support both CPUs and the rest of the hardware.
  • Consider also clearing the System Event Log (SEL). If there’s an existing error message, it will keep appearing on every boot.
  • If none of them work for you then I would suspect a hardware error processor slot on motherboard or new CPU itself.

Hope that helps!
