Complete discovery of the arrays is not happening on Prosphere 2.0.1.1

Hi All,

We are working to deploy Prosphere into our environment from quite a while now, about 3 months. The discovery for the arrays is taking a very long time. In mean time we were been asked to open the firewall ports 443/2163 also we have been trying to discover the arrays which is not happening fully. We also have upgraded the Prosphere and SMI-S.

1. Currently the discovery for the arrays has happened but the topology and capacity discover is yet to happen & is showing as Running under Objects discovery tab.

2. We have upgraded the SMI-S to 4.6 as recommended by EMC on one of the VMs but still the discovery is not happening from the host on which the SMI-S upgrade is done.

3. Surprisingly, the host got discovered on the Prosphere console from the host on which SMI-S version is 4.4 (EMC recommends 4.6 for Prosphere 2.0.1.1)

We are working with EMC continuously from last 3-4 months now but still we aren't able to get on to a decent stage where in we get the desired reports from Prosphere.

What can be done to discover the arrays, switches, collector, hosts on the Prosphere without any hassles. Upgrading the SMI-S or the Prosphere CANNOT be a fix for the discovery of anything on Prosphere (as the discovery of the objects is happening from the lower version of SMI-S too. If there are so many issues to just setup Prosphere then how come people were able to deploy it from the launch of Prosphere till date.

Kindly put in your valuable suggestions so that we may get this going and find an answer to this never ending discovery on Prosphere.... !!!

Thanks in Advance ...

Please consider moving this question as-is (no need to recreate) to the proper forum for maximum visibility.  Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and questions can go unanswered for a long time.

You can do so by selecting "Move" under ACTIONS along the upper-right.  Then search for and select: "ProSphere Support Forum" which would be the most relevant for this question.

Just for clarification, which array types are you trying to discover?  Judging from the port numbers, it seems like you're trying to discover Clariion or VNX.  Do you have VMAX, too, or just Clariion?

What kinds of discovery error messages do you get in your Discovery Jobs in Prosphere?
