OS Recovery Tool Error, unable to connect to the backend

Good day all

I'm hoping someone can assist. I have noted te above error has been mentioned in the forums before, but none of the scenario's has resolved my issue.

The PC involved is out of warranty and has been for some time, but was able to download an OS image using the Dell OS Recovery Tool before & then suddenly this issue.

This error appears on every PC i try this on. including one where it is able to download its own image, but then immediately afterwards generates this error when supplying the system serial I'm seeing the error on.

I have checked internet connection, this is working no problem.

Tool executable is allowed in AV firewall.

At this point it would appear more like the access to the OS image is being revoked. The error is vey specific to the PC that is out of warranty and so I'm finding no reason it should not work on my end.

any help would be greatly appreciated as despite being out of warranty i should still have access to the Windows image associated to this PC.

Thank you

I'm having this problem as well. That said, I did find a way to get the image I needed. I found that the OS Recovery Tool seems to like some service tags and not others. Fortunately I have a stack of the same type of computers, Optiplex 7040s. So I kept trying different service tags and found one that worked.

After I successfully downloaded an image, I went back to the service tags that weren't working and I still got the same backend error. So obviously something is wrong with OS Recovery Tool. Again, these are the same exact model and form factor, but some service tags work and some don't. And yes, I didn't mistype the service tags - the tool recognized that I was trying to download an image for a 7040, but kept throwing the backend error when trying to download. Hope that helps...

Well scratch that. Now I can't download any 7040 full Windows image. And the one I was able to download wouldn't boot. This appears to be another issue with the OS Recovery Tool that I found. It sometimes won't even create bootable USB drives. There are a boatload of other threads on this issue.

Anyone, anyone... Dell, Dell!?!?

Today I researched on a solution based on context for the same tech issue. I found a solution it is worked better than and similar procedure to Dell OS Recovery software:

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Use the alternative procedure in case. Successfully reinstalled Windows 10 on someone's older Dell laptop!

Yeah, I may have to go that route. It's a shame because the image from Dell contains the drivers to make it work without too much fuss and activation isn't picky as well.

Dell, Dell? Your OS Recovery Tool is broken it seems...

Hi 5penance ,

I also had the above problem. I tried all possible solutions and then finally uninstalled the app from the control panel, downloaded the application from the dell website, and reinstalled the program. It worked fine after it reinstalled.
