Inspiron 7391 2-in-1, DMC, select speaker and mic?

My Dell Inspiron 7391 2-in-1 Windows 10 system configuration uses additional speakers and mics besides the built-in one, e.g., webcam mic and conference speaker. The DMC (Dell Mobile Connect) app doesn't use that one and there does not appear to be any way to select the preferred speaker and mic. Any solutions to this?

Thank you for contacting me.

The issue is that the system IS selecting mic/speakers, but NOT the ones I want.

1. I just installed Dell Mobile Connect (DMC) 3 days ago, so I don't have prior history with this.
2. I use the laptop with a Wavlink DisplayLink docking station with two monitors and multiple USB ports, one of which is for a Logitech webcam and another for a JABRA conference mic/speaker, both of which I use for Zoom as well as all other audio apps.
3. Win 10 updated about 2-3 days ago, so I don't have any before/after info.

I noted strange behavior. When DMC is running, the sound icon in the taskbar is non-responsive to right-click. And all playback devices are lost on left click. I ended the task, set the Default playback to JABRA, and when I restarted DMC on both the laptop and iPhone, it now worked. So your help seems to work at least for now, but there is some confusion by the DMC in when to hold vs. release control of the audio system apparently. So maybe this will happen again.

Hi,

Thank you for writing to us. I’m Madhushree from the Dell Social Media team. I understand that system is not selecting the built-in Mic /speakers.

Before we proceed, I have a couple of questions to understand the issue better:

1. How long have you been facing the issue?

2. Have you made any recent hardware/software changes to the system?

3. Did you notice any Windows update that took place recently?

Also, could you help me with the following details for verification purposes?

a. Registered owner's name

b. Email address

c. Phone number

d. Current location

Please check to make sure that the 'Sound Playback Device' is enabled.

This can be done by right-clicking the 'sound icon' on your 'taskbar'. This will bring up a menu of options to choose from. Choose 'Playback devices'.

Within the 'Sound Playback device window', select 'Speakers' by clicking on it.

Then click on 'Set Default' and finally click on Apply or OK.  If 'Speakers' are not visible in the list of 'playback devices', right-click in a 'blank area' and select 'show disabled devices'.

Please share the outcome of the suggested tests.
