wireless printing issues w/ Dell p713W

after i restart my computer the printer will print sometimes only once though. however if my computer has been on for a while or i try to print multiple pages it won't work. i don't want to have to restart every time i want to print something. also i tried printing from a usb & that didn't work either. print jobs stay stuck in the print que & never move.

jclark481,

Windows 7 or newer? Try turning off the balloon tips and see if this helps.

(Right click) Start, control panel, devices and printer, your printer, printing preferences, advanced, more options. Tell it to never show. The problem with this setting is you cannot tell if you're low on ink, printer jams, Etc.

jclark481,

Can you copy a document under the glass? Black and white and color?

Also try this tweak...

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, device manager.

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Restart your computer.

it copies fine. what it won't do is print wirelessly. i can try the usb suggestion but seeing as my printer is a wireless one & isn't hooked up to my computer i don't have a need. i also tried printing from a thumb drive plugged into the printer which also did not work. the printer already set to power saving for when not in use.

jclark481,

While connected to your wireless network, can you run Network Interface and post the information back here.

Also what virus program are you using on your computer.

jclark481,

I would try using the Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier. If you provided me with the Network Interface I could have made suggestions from that information.

Also try reading...

Allow Printer past Kaspersky

the router settings is total greek to me way over my head. i neither know where to go for that nor how to do it. the kapersky thing is equally confusing since i don't know where to look for my version. all i know is that when i restart the computer it prints whatever has been in my printing que & maybe a few more after but then it quits printing for reasons unknown. if it were my firewall settings i wouldn't be able to do anything but my problem is consistency it will print but then it stops later. if the computer shuts off due to power running down & i turn it back on it definitely won't print after that.

jclark481,

Your printer will work with No Security, WEP Security and WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(Personal).

If your router keeps changing channels, then that would cause the loss of communications with the router. Most wireless devices work best on channels 1, 6 or 11. Channel 11 is preferred because it communicates the best.

Here is how to setup your wireless router, if you're interested...

Your setup should look like...

wall > modem/router > wireless router > wired/wireless

Press and hold the little reset button in the back of the wireless router for 60 seconds. This will reset the wireless router back to factory.

Plug the ethernet cable in to a numbered port of the wireless router, then run ipconfig /all

Alternate method= Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type

cmd

hit enter. Type

ipconfig /all          (space between the g and / )

hit enter

Look for the default gateway. It should look something like 192.168.1.1 or similar.

Open Internet Explorer. In the address bar, put the numbers of the default gateway in the address bar and hit enter.

You should be asked for a username and password. Try...

Username = admin

Password =  (blank) Do not put anything here and click enter or password.

but these can vary on the manufacturer. Please consult your wireless routers installation instructions for the correct information.

This is the basic username and password unless stated differently in the user manual. Please consult the user manual for the correct username and password. If you changed the username and password, then you'll need to use the correct one.

You should then see a setup screen.

Click on wireless, basic settings

Here I use Mixed mode, my network name is Virus_Farm and I use channel 11. Use the same settings except change the Network name to a new name, like Your_Network. (You cannot have any spaces)

Save settings.

Now click on Wireless security. you see...

Use WPA Personal

Enter your 13 character password when I have your13characterpassword, then click on save settings.

This will be the password needed to login to the Your_Network network.

Click on wireless mac filter and make sure it's disabled.

Save Settings and close Internet Explorer.

Power down the cable modem/router and the Linksys. Wait 60 seconds, the turn on the cable modem. Wait 15 seconds and turn on the Linksys.
