S2830dn Network Names

Hello,

I'm looking for direction on changing the network name of S2830dn printers connected via Ethernet.  We have multiple printers and they are hard to differentiate from one another with their default network names. I'm certain this can be done, but I cannot find the steps in the user guide.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

So I stumbled across the needed settings (though they are not documented in the user guide).

To change the network name of your S2830dn printer, follow these steps:

1. Get the IP address of your printer.

2. Access the built in web interface of the printer using a web browser and the IP address from step 1.

3. Select SETTINGS from the left hand navigtation.

4. Under OTHER SETTINGS choose NETWORK/PORTS

5. On the resulting screen choose TCP/IP

6. On the resulting screen you will see a text box labeled SET HOSTNAME which you can edit to your liking.

7. Scroll way down to the bottom of the page and click the SUBMIT button.

That should make the needed changes and you should see your printer listed as an available network printer with the new name.

Hi Brad,

Thanks for posting.

Apologies that your printer is not working as you expected.

Can you please post the computer model and operating system?  I found a resolution for Apple, if it will help:  you need to go into the web tool, connectivity, and click Bounjour. Then change the Bonjour broadcast name.

Sorry for the confusion, the model number is in the subject line, it is "S2830dn" and I'm using Windows 10, however, the change I'm trying to make is independent of my workstation operating system.  When I browse for computers, I want to see my S2830dn listed as, "1st floor printer" to differentiate it from the other printers of the same model that are all plugged into our network.

I know it can be done with these printers because someone who worked here previously did so and one of our printers has a new network name, but the others don't.  I couldn't find this covered in the user manual.  Thanks!
