926 AIO Can I replace it with another 926 & not loose my fax history

Hi, still using my Dell 926 AIO with XP. My printer keeps giving me cartridge alignment error & when I replace them I get a 1203 error. I can get a NIB one but do not want to loose my fax history.

If I get another 926 AIO will I have to reload everything with the disc or should it run as is.

I tried different solution as to cleaning the cartridges, new cartridges. The new ones give me the 1203 error. At least with the old ones I get the alingment error but can still print. With the 1203 error I can't even print.

Yes, you are right I did get my moneys worth. I just really like the simplicity of this printer. I use the fax all the time along with the scanner & copier. The 926 does it all very well, I did just now find 4 black & 1 color cartridge NIB for $50 locally, so that should last me until I find a new AIO. I use the fax & scanner for medical information.

Going to look outside of Dell for a new AIO

Regards Gary

I don't know of any printer that allows exporting its fax history and importing it onto a new device.  If retaining your history is important to you, then although this won't help your current history, going forward you may want to look into switching over to a virtual fax solution like eFax or GreenFax.  In those solutions, you get a fax number, but when people send things to it, it gets sent to you as an email attachment.  When you want to send something, you upload a document from your PC or other device and supply the destination fax number, then eFax/GreenFax will send it to a real fax machine and it will appear to have come from your assigned fax number.  You'd obviously cut down on paper and ink usage this way, and you can also send and receive faxes even while you're not at any particular physical fax machine.  For some people, those benefits are a good enough reason to use these services all on their own.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to try and see clean the heads again and see if I can find the sensor too and clean that. Not much on the 926 AIO. I was also wondering if I get another 926 AIO would I need to do a install or is the software I have on my computer OK seeing as it is the same model printer.

The saved fax files have to be some where, also going to look for them.

If the printer is on a network, it's very often possible to access the fax log through a browser -- if you know the IP address, try

http://192.169.1.2, etc.

You may be able to view/screen capture or export the log file.

gary7777,

Error 1203 is a very interesting error code. Here is what I found out about error 1203

It's mean your cartridges overflow even from brand new cartridges after a several prints or right after you refilled the cartridges. Check to see if ink are smeared on the holder where the contact panel with the cartridge. I have the same problem which I think lexmark have a problem and overlook.

Solution:
I use the klennex with a few drops of water to dampen and clean off those contact on the holder and my printer work again.

If you unplug the printer from the wall and remove the power brick for 60 seconds, this will reset any error messages the printer has. I would then plug everything back in.

Power on the printer.

Open the printer(with the power on) and take out the Dell Series 5 black cartridge and then reseat it. I would then take out the color Dell Series 5 ink cartridge and reseat it. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page.

Any error messages?

black cartridge = black side(left side)          color cartridge = color side(right side)

photo cartridge = black side(left side)          color cartridge = color side(right side)

Thank you, I was just informed from Dell that the ink for the 926AIO printer is no longer available. Waiting to see what they advise.

gary7777,

Did you try Staples or Office Max? You need Dell Series 9 ink cartridge(s). Not sure if Walmart sells them anymore.

Thanks for the reply. I have seem a few places that still some left, but I am looking at the long game. Want to find a supplier that make makes their own now that dell no longer has them.

I found one place online, but when using their version of the series 9 black & color, assuming you get a good one, the printer will show low or no ink error, but will still print. Looking for a better solution, Too bad bad dell left us 926 owners out to dry.

gary7777,

You have an older model printer. Don't think it was really meant to work past the Vista Operating system.

Because of the sensor needing to be read, generic and refilled ink cartridges don't read properly. Wonder how long Staples and Office Max will carry the replacement cartridges.

Your printer was made for Dell by Lexmark. Lexmark decided to get out of the printer business.

You probable got your moneys worth out of the printer. You'll have to consider options when the Dell Series 9 ink cartridges are no longer available.
