Precision 5560 keyboard is hardly replaceable

Hi there,

Let me share piece of my knowledge gained hard way. I've got Precision 5560 with English only backlit keyboard. Living in Slavic country I use Cyrillic pretty often. Found like $37 Eng+Rus keyboard on Aliexpress. That one was actually for XPS 15, and 5560 listed as compatible. When attempted to install it, faced trouble disconnecting KBDC to MB flatcable, just can't release that latch, found no videos how to do that. Either way, keeping that cable connected and flipping MB over, I have realized, that keyboard is mounted to the base by melting plastic posts, one can see many of them here https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/precision-15-5560-laptop/prec5560_sm/installing-the-palm-rest-and-keyboard-assembly?guid=guid-0fc718c4-c9ac-44a5-9cde-ab0cb41a947c&lang=en-us. That makes keyboard barely removable. At least, that is not the job to be completed with screwdriver. Hope this would save time someone. And yes, I am frustrated of what Precision became now.

The keyboard is not designed to be replaced separately from the palmrest assembly.  This design is more common than not on newer notebooks, including just about all Dells in recent memory.

You need the complete keyboard - palmrest assembly -- not just the keyboard.

Thanks, that is a knowledge I've gained hard way.

My previous workhorse was Precision 7510, so through those 7 years I definitely missed something.

Solution to my case was engraving service, in 30 minutes for something like $12 CNC controlled laser burned additional symbols on keys, and even backlight works great.
