7540 gpu

Hello all. I have 1 old HP G62 that I adore and have done a few things to but it is not up to the task of video editing. I also have a lenevo that is useless. Ideapad1, I know i know.... Anyways, I got a DJI action 3 and found out I can't edit videos with either of them. So, I was recommended a couple good options and went with the Precision 7540. 512gb SSD (possible 1 or 2tb crucial upgrade if needed), 32gb ram (i plan on putting another crucial 32gb in it). They say 64mb max. I went with the 7540 because of build quality. I like heavier, substantial feeling things. New lap tops are thin and weightless. I don't like that. 7540 is over 5 pounds. I like that. Now, the thing holding back this lap top I think is the T1000 nvidia gpu. For video editing I heard it is not great and can't do 4k. I don't really know much about video editing vs gpu/memory. Is it possible to put a RTX 3000 gpu from another 7540 into this one? Or the RTX 5000, or even the T2000? How bad is the T1000? I don't really plan to play games. If anything, old games from early 2000s. I got it at what I think is a great price on ebay, reburbished by dell with a 2 year warranty. $400 in grade A+ condition. They say brand new. It will be here tomorrow. Thanks.

The price is reasonable, but if the battery is original don't expect it to last very long.  While you can replace the GPU in this model, price them before you start on that path -- they will be more expensive than you'd think.

Yeah I am checking them out. A used RTX3000 on ebay is anywhere from $140-200 USD. Rtx4000 get a bit pricey. 400-500 dollars. I think a 3000 would be absolutely fine for my needs.

@rm25088 Be aware that you will need to change the heatsink when going from a T1000/T2000 to the RTX 3000.

From T1000 to T2000 the gain is small (15 to 20%). Going to RTX 3000 the gain is huge...

The RTX 4000 and 5000 have another variation of the heatsink...
