Precision 5820 - M.2
Hi all,
Hoping someone can help. I have a Precision 5820 that came with a SATA SSD. I'd like to upgrade it to M.2 NVMe and possibly to an M.2 NVMe Raid array. Can you please tell me what components I need to add AND any preferred M.2 manufacturers/models. I plan on using 1TB drives
Thanks in advance.

I have one machine that came with a RAID on MB key, so I installed this beastie:

I'm still tinkering with the setup, will update when I get farther along.
Without the RAID on MB key, you could still get decent results with Windows Storage Spaces, which will give you Simple ( ~ RAID 0), Mirror ( ~ RAID 1), or Parity ( ~ RAID 5) options:

My thoughts on this card were, better to use a PCI X16 card (must be a FULL X16 slot to see all 4 drives!!) slot for NVMe & use the limited drive bays for large ( ~ 20 TB) mechanical drives.
Cheers,
Franko

To OP question, the Asus Hyper will certainly work and allowing additional drives to be recognized. A feasible and economical solution for storage expansion.

Depending on your region, location, it can be difficult for you to order OEM kits to upgrade your system flexbay.
Alternatively, you can use a third party RAID card such as Asus Hyper. It will allow you to install up to x4 NVMe SSD. Soft RAID will be supported.

Thanks both...
TheQuickFox: Thanks mate - any idea what the M.2 runs at speed wise in this config? I'm hoping it's not SATA speed.
Chino: Thanks Chine - I had seen this card but thought it might require PCIe splitting/PCIe RAID - are you certain it will work?
