Can't eject hot swap HDD on 5820

I've been setting up a new-to-me 5820 and for the most part everything is going great. Running Win11 for workstations. But I can't seem to eject either of my new HDD's so that I can safely remove them from the hot swap bay.

I'm not too keen on just ejecting it while the drive is spinning, so how can I set up the drives so that they show up in my "Safely remove hardware and eject media" menu?

I just discovered that AHCI is enabled instead of RAID for the SATA controller. Is it possible that has something to do with it? It sounds like switching this to RAID is a real pain, but since my OS is on an internal M.2 SSD does that mean the switch would be easier? Any insight is appreciated.

Hello,

in theory :

  • Switch to safe boot
  • Reboot into BIOS
  • Change from AHCI to RAID in the BIOS
  • Boot into safe mode
  • Turn off safe mode and reboot normally again

this should allow to change from ahci to raid without reinstalling windows
