New ME484 Install - Installed drives not showing up

Hello all,

I've got an odd situation and perhaps someone here has some insight.

We recently added two new fully-populated expansion units [ME484] to an existing ME4084. Everything came back up fine but the top drawer of the second expansion unit only shows half of the drive slots [the even ones] as being populated. The CLI 'show system' command shows 252 disks (3x84) so on some level the disks are recognized, but the 'show disks' command and/or the Web UI can't see them.

Has anyone seen this before? It's a production system so I'm hesitant to poke at it too much.

Cheers,

Bill

Hello Bill,

Does the Recovery Guru list anything?

Do you have any amber LED's to report?

Are you able to get a maintenance window to Power cycle:

shut down host, shut down storage, shut down expansion, reseat the missing drives (maybe swap the even and odd drive numbers), power up expansion, power up storage then power up host. Check results.

Hello,

Thanks for responding so quickly. There are no Amber lights. I may have a window this weekend for a full power cycle. I'll try that at first opportunity. In the mean time I noticed an odd thing....

When I turn on the LEDs for the first two drives in the first enclosure (1.0, 1.1) the LED for 1.0 lights up, 1.1 does not, and 2.1 does. It's as if the odd numbered drives in the first enclosure (top) are really mapped to the odd numbered drives in the second enclosure (top). I checked the cabling and it's cabled as per Fig 14 in the Deployment guide.

Barring any further suggestions, I'll do the power cycle when I can and report back.

Cheers,

B

Hello Bill,

That is strange. You mentioned these are just purchased. Do you have the ability to contact Support directly to take a look with you?
