MD1220 fault state in split mode
I am trying to switch our MD1220 storage vault into Split mode. However, after switching and repowering, the unit stays in fault mode (upper led blinking amber). The unit does work in "normal mode", however on our R740 server connected to the MD1220, iDRAC 9/storage/enclosures says "RAC0501: There are no physical disks to be displayed. 1. Check if the host system is powered off or shutdown. 2. Check if the physical disks are inserted into the enclosure or attached to the backplane." Also, in the Advanced properties of the enclosure page, it is mentioned:
Enclosure Split Mode Capability | Not Capable |
Any ideas to solve this are highly appreciated!

@DELL-Chris H
for sure the MD12x0 supports splitmode. EMM0 manage the first 50% drives and EMM1 the rest. So you need to take care of propper cabling.
Take a look to https://dl.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-md1200_setup%20guide2_en-us.pdf

On the initial firmware release I believe you could, but I do know that in later releases it disabled that feature.

We use such a setup ages ago.

@DELL-Chris H - would you know by any chance as of which firmware version this split-mode feature is disabled? If so then I would expect the switch on the front of the unit to have no function at all? But - even without cables attached the unit immediately falls into a fail state (top led blinking amber ) when switched to split mode.
@Origin3k - cabling is ok - we followed the manual. I'll try to download a log from the unit
Thanks again for your input

Let me research it and I will see if I can identify it.

We use Dell 12Gbps HBA SAS controllers in our servers - could it be these do not match with the MD1220?

Here in documentation is not mention 12Gbps HBA controller support. https://dell.to/3X6lM9i MD1220 operates at 6Gbps with its SAS connections. So if your HBA support backward compatible then it will work 6Gbps.
