How to move a file system to a different NAS

Is it possible to move a file system clone object to a different NAS?

Marketing/documentation I found (https://infohub.delltechnologies.com/l/powerstore-file-capabilities-2/thin-clones) suggests that it may be possible because 'there are no dependencies between objects', but I cannot see any support for this in the management console or the command-line interface documentation.

This is on a PowerStore 5000T running PowerStore OS 2.0.1.3 and operating in Unified/SDNAS mode.

What I am trying to achieve is duplication of a file system a production environment (Active Directory domain A) to a pre-production environment (Active Directory domain B) using the PowerStore's iCDM capabilities. There is no trust relationship between domains A and B.

If moving file systems/clones between NAS devices is not possible:

  • Is there any support for this planned in future PowerStore OS releases?
  • Is there another supported configuration that might achieve the same outcome?

No, it's not possible to move filesystems between NAS servers.  What you're trying to do would need to be done at the host level.
