Updating PowerPath - Is it trivial on Exchange 2010SP3 DAG?

Hi All,

I'm a bit green when it comes to EMC, but I'm learning...

I was going over some of the Boxes I'm now responsible for in an effort to get them patched from a-z.  I have a two-node Exchange 2010 DAG setup and I was wondering if someone could bother to either point me in a direction for Exchange PowerPath documentation or tell me of their experience when updating PowerPath regarding Exchange DAGs.

It seems like I should dismount the databases to be on the safe side?

Has anyone ever patched a DAG in which you leave the databases mounted and just patch the node that has the "Healthy" (not mounted) portion of the DAG?

Planning on going from version 5.3SP1 to 5.7SP4.

Thanks a lot for your time,

Mr Mister

Hello Mr_Mister, as per the installation guide "Installing PowerPath requires that you reboot the host. Plan to install or upgrade PowerPath when a reboot will cause minimal disruption to your site."

I would recommend shutting down Exchange services and set to manual prior to the upgrade, and following the reboot, verify all LUNs are visible and correct in the PowerPath GUI and Disk Management before restarting Exchange.

This will allow you to check for any unexpected issues without affecting your Exchange DBs.

You mentioned PowerPath 5.3 SP1. This is a full released version so upgrades are suitable for that. If you had a PowerPath hotifx installed we would require you to uninstall the hotifx and reboot the server before performing an upgrade.

Regards, Michel.
