Firmware Update for multiple r750s

I downloaded Dell Repository Manager 3.4.5 (I think this is the latest version). I have installed it under RHEL9. I have created a r750 repository and I am choosing export to copy these to a USB. I choose 'Share' and provide a local location. After the job runs, I get a bunch of FOLDERxxx directories and a r750_Catalog.xml file. I copy these files and directories to a USB.

When I launch the firmware update, I choose Local Drive, the USB drive is selected in the Local Drive and I type r750_Catalog.xml as the File Path. After I choose Next I get the option to 'select or unselect' available options. I leave them all checked and choose Apply.

I am presented with the TPM BitLocker warning which is not relevant in my particular scenario (these are unconfigured systems). After Choosing Apply,

I get the dialog box for 'Downloading Update Package 1 of 9. However this errors, with 'Update Failed: iDRAC 7.10.50.00'

I am not able to apply any updates.

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Hello, thanks for choosing Dell and welcome to our community!
In this case you can try bootable ISO or SUU from DRM:

@DELL-Young E I tried that as well but the ISO did not boot from USB. Does the USB need to be created in some specific way? We use RHEL and Ubuntu, do not have Windows and I used dd to copy the ISO to the USB.

Hello,

You'll need a third party utility to make the USB bootable with the bootable ISO

Use your favorite third party tool like Rufus, UltraISO, YUMI

How to boot ISO using USB drive

  1. Download any third-party tool like Rufus, UltraISO, YUMI.
  2. Add the ISO image file into the tool.
  3. Insert the USB Drive to burn the ISO file. ...
  4. Once the ISO boot files are copied to the USB drive, you can insert them into the target computers for booting from ISO file.

@DELL-Charles R All of the tools you have suggested are for Windows.

@DELL-Charles R I have created bootable USB using dd for Operating Systems. Unsure of why this method does not work for the SUU ISO?

Hello, you do not need the USB. You can mount ISO in iDRAC. Maybe this video can help:

Do you have a link on how to configure the iDRAC9? If I didn't mention it already, these systems have never been configured....with anything. I am simply trying to firmware update everything before starting and OS installs, etc.

When I boot it, it goes to the Lifecycle Controller menu. Even when I have the SUU USB connected. I do not get an option to change the boot and boot from the USB. Previously, I tried to install all the updates from the DRM but those failed, hence this thread. Now when I boot it, with the USB I created from the SUU, I get an stuck keyboard error and then it eventually goes back to the Lifecycle Controller menu. It does not work when I choose local drive, even though the USB is connected, it says "No Local Drive available". I am stuck in some sort of catch-22. It wont boot from the SUU USB, nor read files when I copy them from the DRM.

Now you want me to use iDRAC9?

Hello,

R750 Installation and Service Manual

Page 14, #11 it should say iDRAC next to it.

It is the iDRAC Dedicated port that you can use if you have the iDRAC Enterprise

I found the iDRAC9 NIC and it is configured. It will not let me log in. I have changed the root password to 'root' on the console, but I get 'RAC0232: Login failed." when connecting to it via https.

I have tried resetting the iDRAC9 to default factory settings and using the password under the system tag. This does not work either. It is possible that this hardware is defective?

Hello,

There should be a pull out tab on the front of the server that has the iDRAC password

Page 19-20

iDRAC MAC address and iDRAC secure password label

https://dell.to/46jnoPT

Did you type it exactly?

You may install drac tools on the OS and and use this command

racadm racresetcfg -rc

This resets idrac configuration and sets back to user:root, pw:calvin

For the drac tools go here

https://dell.to/4c6qaZY

Input keyword: drac tools

If that doesn't work I would recommend to contact support directly and an engineer can do a remote session with you to get a look. The forum is not enabled for that type engagement.
