Dell PowerEdge T320 - Dell ReadyRails Tower Sliding Rail Kit (C2) (5N9DY-OSTK)

Hello,

I purchased a surplus Dell PowerEdge T320 on eBay and I found the matching rails P/N (5N9DY) from another post here. I ended up purchasing the readyrails kit from eBay as well.

Do I need anything else to install the rails on the tower and start using it as a rack server or is the rail kit all that is required to do that?

Thanks!

Hello,

You may be able to just do the Mounting Ears. Without installation instructions I can't be sure. I'm unable to find install directions for this old of a system.

If you find it doesn't work with just the Ears then source the other parts.

The VGA Module would go in the Control Panel for Rack Mode

I find this information you may like to review:

Conversion From Tower Mode To Rack Mode

In US/Canada you can call 1-800-945-3355 then ask for the Spare Part Department.

@DELL-Charles R

Honestly, this seems to be the only thing that looks to be accurate for me.

Looks like I need to

Install rails on rack > install ear racks > slide tower into the rack.

I am sure the rack bezel would look nice but I will have quicker access to the drive slots without one.

It's a shame someone did not properly include a good step by step instructions on the support page for this product.

@DELL-Charles R

I just saw this video below after googling for the T430 which looks the same from what I can tell as the T320. I know someone on reddit mentioned they have a T430 and it used the same Rack Ears. Technically I might not even need the rack ears since it looks like the rail system has the mounting screws with it that lock onto the rail. It might just look neater. I thought the rack ears may of had a purpose for mounting to the rails or something but this video has helped a lot!

They only just posted this on the 14th of March! That is crazy considering these are older. Do they not make this guides not long after putting systems into production?

Hello,

You also need to do a Tower to Rack conversion on the server chassis.

I found a T320 Tower to Rack conversion kit part number (A051162) from some old notes. The part number doesn't come up anymore at least on the web site. You may need to call Sales to see if it is still available.

I can give you some part numbers of the kit components.

You will need Rack Ears a left and right.

A VGA module

A Control Panel for Rack Mode. This part I did not find a part number.

These are the part numbers I could find:

#4D64J

CVR,T2RK,TOP,PLSTC,SVRC,T320

Cover Tower To Rack Conversion, Top, Plastic

#U034R

BZL,RACK,TWR,3U

Bezel for Rack Tower, (3U)

#0W1GC

CRD,EXP,RSR,VGA,BD,PET420 /320

System Card, VGA Board, Poweredge T420 /320

#X3TV1

ASSY,MECH,T2RK,MTG,EARS,T620

ASSY Mechanical Tower To Rack Conversion, Mounting Ears

These 5 digit part numbers are service part numbers. They do not usually come up on the web site.

You need to call Sales and ask for the Spare Part Department to get a quote and purchase these part numbers.

I recommend contact Sales - Spare Part Department. Ask about PN#A051162 for the kit.

If it is not available ask for the components listed and for the Control Panel for Rack Mode.

Thanks for your thorough response Charles, I wanted to see if I needed anything else and wanted to work on going ahead to purchase it soon.

Do I need all those pieces in order to physically put it on the rack and maintain it? I don't need anything too fancy. I am just setting a rack in my master closet to clean up my equipment. It's not very organized right now.

The Rack Ears make sense because I probably can't use the rails without it.

What does the tower to rack conversion do and is it a requirement for it to be used on the rack?

I imagine the Bezel is just for aesthetics.

What about this VGA module and the control for rack mode? What do they do?

Can you point me to the proper phone # for the spare part department?

Hello,

That looks like a helpful video. It says Published Mar 14, 2024. I would think the video is older than that and was just published on this page. It may have been hosted on another page before. I honestly don't know.
