PowerEdge T620 louder when GPU installed

Hello,

I have installed an Nvidia Quadro K4000 GPU and since then the usual 9-10% fan speed has raised to 35%.

I read that having the front fans would be necessary for GPU installation (however this GPU already has active fan cooling on it)

Any ideas how the server fan speed can be lowered to the previous 9-10% as before, without me needing to purchase the front fans?

Thanks,

Istvan

You can refer below link for GPU installation guidelines for T620. Fan 5 and Fan 6 are required for configuration with GPU

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/poweredge-t620/t620ownersmanual-v3/gpu-card-installation-guidelines?guid=guid-f62915d7-de6e-4d7c-9107-d5fefdecd3a5&lang=en-us

It is expected to have higher fan speed when additional cards are installed on the server especially GPU. Did you have latest iDRAC and BIOS FW installed on the server?

Hi,

Thanks for sharing the link.

In case of the middle fan assembly installation, would the system be quieter overall?

Or just the same level of noise, just coming from 2 different fan systems, with an overall lower spin for each?

Thanks,

Istvan

Just to answer myself regarding the noise level after installing the front fan assembly (if anyone else is interested): overall noise is quiet, I could even say that it's quieter than the 2 fan was, front fans spin a bit higher rpm, and the back side ones at a lower rate (RPM percentage isn't even registered for these 2, but fans spin at 960 RPM)

So I would say this is the proper cooling
