Optional Type-C port, Cables length

I just purchased the optional Type-C/video port add on board.  Holy smokes!  Can we make the cables any shorter?  Almost impossible to install without really tugging on the cables.

@redxps630 I have no idea what you are trying to say.  MFF? "Micro Form Factor"?  EOL? OP?

I repeat myself, the cables are too short to install the module without significant pulling and tugging on the cables and module.  Not a good design.

I am just guessing you have a new Dell model micro 7020.  OP and MFF (short for micro form factor) are terms for other helper if they are inclined to jump in to help.  it is not the end of life (EOL) 7020.  often original person (OP) do not tell us directly what their product model is so we have to resort to guessing.  thank you for letting the community know the USB C module cable is too short.  there may be other users who have similar experience to report soon

Now I understand!  You are right, my model number was not included.  Sorry, my frustration was showing.  My bad.

The 7020 is brand new and the module was purchase directly from Dell.  The cables are so short, they pop out from the MB as you are trying to flip the module over to slide it in.  On the MB, they are dressed so they exit towards each other.  Maybe this is designed for more than one MB.  An extra inch would be immensely helpful.  Also, a minor point, no screws were included to mount the module.

Is this what Dell shipped you?  check the Dell tag on the module.

CRD, PORT, TYPE C, 7010MFF-E

and can you confirm your PC is Micro 7020 and not Micro plus 7020?

The USB C socket #6 is fairly close to back panel so I am surprised the cable would be too short.

  1. Hold the optional Type-C module in place above the system board.
  2. Connect the Type-C signal cable to its connector (SIGNAL) on the system board.
  3. Connect the Type-C USB cable to its connector (TYPE-C) on the system board.
  4. Connect the Type-C DisplayPort cable to its connector (VIDEO) on the system board.
  5. Connect the Type-C power cable to its connector (TOPPOWER) on the system board.
  6. Flip over the optional Type-C module.
  7. Insert the optional Type-C module into its slot on the back panel of the computer.
  8. Replace the two (M2x3) screws that secure the optional Type-C module.

I think it is either the signal or toppower cable that is too short.  the type C and Video cable should have no problem

My computer is the Optiplex Micro Plus 7020  MFR #DN5R3

This is on my invoice:

ASSY,CRD,PORT,TYPEC,MFF/TC,D12

Doesn't say much.  On the product page it does list the 7010 MFF, I just assumed that the 7020 is too new to be listed.

Don't tell me I ordered the wrong one....

Edit:  I looked at the instructions you posted.  Too many cables.  My adapter (see below) has only two cables.  Please look at the 7020 owner's manual.  It shows a completely different installation procedure.

if your module has USB C cable only I do not see why it would be too short.  the USB C socket on mobo is very close to back panel.

look at back panel of your pc.

7020 is like

7020 plus is like

@redxps630  It has two cables as shown in the picture.  One is USB, the other is video support for the Type-C connector.  It not easy to put the plugs in, then to rotate the board and slide it in without pulling out the plugs.
