Dell Optiplex 3000 SFF i5 12500 - PCIE gen3 or 4 nvme controller?
I've just bought the above PC and was thinking of upgrading the nvme hdd. At the moment it has a pcie gen3 Samsung hdd. I'm looking at getting a Kingston KC3000 which is gen4 but if the board only has a gen3 controller I would just get a cheaper gen3 hdd. Can anyone help?
Thanks

The OptiPlex 3000 SFF storage specs does indicated a gen 4 nvme as an option.
So is the order configuration tool would allow option to add a gen 4 nvme drive.

Hmm, have just run CrystalDiskMark and it's giving PCIE4 speeds for my 4th gen WD SN850X 1TB NVME. I have the UEFI set to AHCI mode. I guess this means I'm stuck with a PCIE3 controller?![20230525_152330.jpg 20230525_152330.jpg](https://www.dell.com/community/assets/community/687062f5-603c-4f5f-ab9d-31aa7cacb376/communityasset-393f8765-59ba-448b-ac65-5cab89dfb664-843465895)

That is the performance speed. You may want to check with Crystal Disk Info for the transfer mode.
You are likely to get disappointment with very large files transfer. A combination of devices and the duration will decrease the speed significantly.

Here is the performance speed of Gen.3 cards in RAID 0, theoretically speaking, equally to a Gen.4 card.
