Need to expand storage on PowerEdge T620
My business uses a OOW PowerEdge T620. It is currently using a PERC S110 raid controller with four 1TB 7.2K 6.0Gbps Enterprise SATA hard drives which are hot-swappable. The raid is 10. We are getting low on space, so I bought four more matching hard drives to expand storage 2TB, but the PERC S110 is limited to four drives.
I would prefer to not have to recreate the raid arrays or recover the server from bare-machine backup. What is my best option?
- Can I change the size of the hard drives from four 1TB to four 2TB drives? What is the upgrade procedure?
- Get and install PERC H310 controller with eight 1TB drives. What is the upgrade procedure?

Hi,
The S110 has limited options for drive swapping. There is not a way to expand the existing virtual disk. You would have to create a second 1TB virtual disk with the new free space after rebuilding the drives one at a time. The controller does not support array migration to an H310. The best option is to move to an H710 and restore from bare metal, that is a large performance boost for the drives as well.

I am familiar with doing a bare metal backup of the server, but have very little experience on raid controller setup. Is there any documentation on how to upgrade from S110 to H710 raid controller?
Are there any other hardware/software (cables, etc.) that I need to upgrade to the H710 raid controller?

You may need new cables depending on which ones you currently have. How many drives slots are on your system? The T620 had options between 4 and 32 and they have different cabling.

You probably need the cable from the backplane to the PERC. 2T71R, this may come with the card when you buy it.
