Second CPU socket not working.

I looked at the event logs and the LifeCycle logs. There were 3 concerning errors: 1. VLT0204 2. PWR2402 3. The PSU status's and the input voltages and that were all zero, not actual numbers. I was considering updating the BIOS but I am a bit wary of doing so because of the potential consequences. I am new to this stuff and I would like advice.

Model: Dell PowerEdge R620

Notes:

Tried replacing thermal paste on both CPU's

There were some bent pins on the 2nd CPU socket that I unbent

Tried switching PSUs around

Tried switching CPUs around

I have confirmed that both CPUs work

BIOS version: 2.8.0

RAM: 96G

OS: Proxmox

Only get VLT0204 with 2nd CPU in

Boots fine with 1 CPU

With 1 CPU, it only sees 32G of RAM

I would try this first: Remove your second CPU.

Update your BIOS with the original CPU installed only.

Reinstall your second CPU.

Here it fixes a VLT0204 error:

Also, make sure the two CPU's are exactly the same. Same model, same speed, same stepping.

Make sure the unbent pins (Are these pins on the CPU or LGA pins on the socket?) actually make contact. Especially LGA pins can be very hard to bend back correctly.

Bent pins are likely the problem and are nearly impossible to bend back because they need to be in the exact right place to make proper contact. I hate to say it, but you'll probably  need to replace the motherboard

I tried updating the bios and that did not work. Something interesting is when I try to turn it on with both CPUs in, the LCD says VLT0304 then turns to say VLT0204 and when it turns to says VLT0204 i am unable to do anyting on the LCD (not scroll the message or anything)
