Inspirion loses wifi

We have two Inspirion desktops and recently changed ISP from Centurylink to Comcast due to cut cables (road construction).  Both computers will lose wifi for 2-3 seconds, then reconnect.  It does not seem to matter if only one or both are online.  Comcast tested the lines at installation and again a week later and all is well up to and including the modem.  The unit is in the same spot as the previous box.  We use Netscape 'antennas' on both units--not sure they are needed but figure they can't hurt. Any ideas?

Dropping Wi-Fi connection can be due to low router radio signal pick up by pc WLAN card or pc WLAN driver update coincidental with ISP switch. Try clean Windows 10 install on one of the pc and test Microsoft WLAN driver.  To differentiate culprit (PC vs router), you can use a 3rd computer connecting to same wireless station (2.4 or 5G?) .  Is it just the Dell desktops or do all your phone/pc experience wireless connection drop off from router?

Always include exact PC model(s) and version(s) of Windows in your post.

Possible Windows Power plan settings issues...?

Open the WiFi adapter entry in Device Manager and click its Power Management tab. Uncheck the box "Allow PC to turn off...". Then close DM.

Now navigate to the Advanced power setting screen for the active Windows power plan. How you get there depends on version of Windows that's running...

On that screen, disable Hybrid Sleep, USB Selective Suspend, and PCI Express Link State Management. Set Wireless Adapter Settings to Max Performance on same screen. And can't hurt to set Processor Power Management to 100% for both Max and Min State on that screen too.

Be sure to save the changes. Reboot and see if that helps...

Spectrum has speed test on their website and app.  I don't know if Comcast has it too.

FCC also has speed test app.  Though it's for phones, it's one easy way to check when PC is underperforming.

You can test internet speed connections here. Works with any PC, any browser, and any ISP.

@redxps630 We thought of that also.  Our phones, IPAD and HP laptop do not show this problem.  Something there is that does not like a Dell..

@RoHe Point taken:  windows Pro 10, version 22H2, OS19045.4842.  The other Dell runs 11 Pro, version 10.0.22631.  Both showed the same problem.  I have run your fixes, where I can find them, and the errors have slowed--but not disappeared

@gliderguy  - You still didn't tell us the PC models...

You're calling them "errors" now. Does that mean you get an error message, or do you really just mean "loss/pause in WiFi connectivity"?

Exactly which settings did you change, and which ones can't you find?  Be sure to mention the version of Windows for each setting you can't find, because access may vary, depending on  Win 10 or Win 11.

And that seems -to me- to be a relatively long latency (time it takes for your computer, the internet, and everything in between, to respond to an action you take, like clicking a link).

Loss/pause in internet connection is what I meant--perhaps the words matter more than I thought.  The changes I made were only to the Windows 10 desktop.  I will not adjust anything on the W 11 unless/until I've gotten the issue resolved on the W 10.   Windows 10 Pro, version 22H2, OS 19045.4842.  It is still cycling on (mostly)/off connection

Search Win 10 for Power&Sleep. Open it and click Additional Power Settings (toward bottom of screen).  When that opens, ID the active power plan (black radio button). Click Change Settings.

When that opens, click Change Advanced Power Settings. On Advanced screen, do you see these options, like this?

If you don't see Hybrid Sleep on the Advanced screen, open a CMD prompt window and type in: powercfg /availablesleepstates and press Enter. Is Hybrid Sleep listed there as "available"?

If you don't see USB Selective Suspend listed, follow instructions under Option 1 here to add it to the Advanced screen. Then reboot. Now open Advanced screen again, and assuming USB Selective Suspend is listed, disable it, and disable hibernation on that same screen too.  Be sure to save the change(s).

You probably figured it out by now - Latency is another word for delayed response.

@RoHe Thanks for walking me thru this.  Hybrid sleep does not appear but USB does and it's now disabled.  My sleep options are 'sleep after' and 'allow wake timers'.

@gliderguy With whatever we have done so far I see no change in the connection reliability using wi-fi.  We are beginning to think about wired connections for both computers, tho it'd be a long run, like 40'.
