Reviving Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC

Axim X5

Axim X5

Dell Community,

I was going through my desk and came across a Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC. I'm not sure when I bought it, but It has a Netgear MA701 wireless CF card. If possible, I would like to get it connected to the internet with the wi-fi card. Since it sat unused so long, I replaced the backup battery (CR2032), and then I charged up the main battery. Amazingly, the Axim still works. It has an Intel PXA255 processor, 64 MB of memory, and is running Microsoft Pocket PC version 4.20.1081 (Build 13100).

Unfortunately, I don't have an older PC, and only have a Dell Latitude 7410 running Windows 11. Windows Mobility Center cannot establish a sync partnership with the Axim running ActiveSync 3.7. I also have a couple of 2GB SD cards formatted with FAT file system I could use to put files onto the Axim. The Axim does not recognize the SD cards either.

If there is a way to get the Netgear MA701 driver onto the Axim and configure it to use my home wi-fi LAN that would really be neat. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

To begin, you would need to find a compatible driver for the Netgear MA701 wireless CF card that can work with the Axim's Pocket PC version. This might require some online research to locate the appropriate driver version.

Thanks for your note. After further research, I did obtain the Netgear MA701 driver installation kit for Windows Mobile 2003 from Netgear. It appears that the installation kit requires the use of ActiveSync to put the driver on the Axim X5. I think I am going to have to find some old PC running Windows XP SP2 that has ActiveSync to install the MA701 driver. I'm checking with friends to see if anyone has an old PC
