Accessing/configuring a Linksys router

Hi:

I purchased a router because I wanted to have the security of a hardware firewall. Finally decided on the Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G. The documentation for installation was scanty, and the supplied CD wizard failed to establish a connection, despite following all the instructions to the letter.

So I re-connected my cablemodem, went to the Linksys website, and used their online wizard to hook up. It went without a hitch, and it *seems* my router is working correctly, with all the correct LED's lit. At least I'm back online.

My question is, how do I make sure my encryption is enabled? I can't seem to find anywhere to access the router/firewall software. I don't see any Linksys icon in my systray, nothing in my Control Panel, Program Files, or msconfig, So how do I configure this router for security?

Open a web browser, type  - http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar.  When it asks for a username and password, leave the username blank and entere admin as the password.  You do not need to install any software whatsoever to use a router and all aspects of the configuration can be accessed using the web based configuration utility on the router, accessed as described above.

Thanks Steve:

There's an awful lot of info there, and I'm not sure I understand it all.

However, under the Wireless/Basic Wireless tab, I have 'Wireless SSID Broadcast' set to 'Disable'.
Under the Security/Firewall tab, I have 4 entries checked opposite "Block WAN Requests"
Are these correct settings?

As for the rest, I'm totally lost. I'm not setting up a network here- all I want is the extra security of a hardware firewall. Are there any good tutorials on this?
