S4128 filesystem problem

Hej,

I've got a couple of S4128s, and today one was shutdown during a power outage. After the power  came back, the device was not working properly. System led was blinking slowly.  No interfaces came up.

Attached a serial cable, saw the switch name and login prompt, and drew a sigh of relief. However, as I tried to log in, any valid username I entered never resulted in asking for a password—just something (forgot the exact wording) indicating that the username did not exist. So, I tried the defaults in case something had reset the user/passwords—the same result.

I then rebooted the device and watched the boot process. It seemed normal. The only item that did pop up was a couple of messages indicating a filesystem or block errors on the storage.

In the usual case, I'd run fsck.ext(whats used) on the device, however, not sure how I would go about doing that on the switch. Any tips? or do I have to reinstall the OS?

Ok, so to summarise. If the file system becomes corrupted, re-install the OS.

Parlos,

Would you confirm a couple of things for me?

What color is the flashing LED,, green or amber?

What fw version and OS version is installed?

Lastly, if you boot to ONIE Rescue and run the command  vgscan --mknodes does it locate the OS10 volume?

Let me know what you see.

@DELL-Chris H

Hej,

Not sure about the color, so I'm attaching a photo (not sure if the photo was attached, added it 2-3 times, and still not showing up).

How do I find out the fw / OS version from the rescue terminal?

If the device is similar to my other S4128's (same delivery).

I suspect that the BIOS is 3.33.0.1-11, and the OS is 10.5.3.

ONIE:~ # vgscan --mknodes
 Reading all physical volumes.  This may take a while...
 Found volume group "OS10" using metadata type lvm2
ONIE:~ #

Hello,

here how to find the OS version

Dell EMC Networking OS10 How to Find ONIE Version from Dell OS10 Command Line | Dell US

and for the firmware the command is "show version"

I don't see a way to check the filesystem on the switch.

Thanks

@DELL-Marco B

Hej,

Thanks, so I got this;

ONIE:~ # /mnt/onie-boot/onie/tools/bin/onie-version
ONIE version        : 3.33.1.1-9
ONIE vendor_id      : 674
ONIE platform       : x86_64-dellemc_s4100_c2338-r0
ONIE machine        : dellemc_s4100_c2338
ONIE machine_rev    : 0
ONIE arch           : x86_64
ONIE config_version : 1
ONIE build_date     : 2020-08-07T06:58-07:00
ONIE partition_type : gpt
ONIE kernel_version : 4.1.28
ONIE firmware       : auto
ONIE switch_asic    : bcm
ONIE skip_ethmgmt_macs: no

But based on your comment, "I don't see a way to check the filesystem on the switch.", is the only way forward to reinstall the OS?

Yes, we don't have other solution for this.
