U2722DE, no USB-C signal from your device, #5

Dell U2722DE

Dell U2722DE

I know this subject has been raised previously, but I think Dell should be more aware that this connection problem is obviously more common than perhaps they realize. I purchased a new Dell U2722DE  monitor in December 2022 and I bought it specifically because it had a variety of ports. As I had just bought an Apple Mac mini M1 I wanted to connect my existing monitor as well which has an HDMI connection. The two monitors worked fine at first and then all of a sudden the new Dell monitor stopped working and displayed the error message  "No USB-C Signal from your device"

I tried everything I could to get it working but to no avail. The U2722DE worked fine when connected via HDMI but not using the USB-C port. Thinking the USB-C cable may be at fault I purchased another but still it would not work. I contacted Apple and they ran several diagnostic tests which showed there were no problems with the Mac mini so I then contacted Dell.

After a very long and frustrating phone call with them there seemed no answer but to exchange the monitor and assume it to be faulty. Dell replaced the monitor last month and it worked fine using the USB-C connection with my second monitor connected via HDMI. Fine that is until this week when all of a sudden it stopped working!

Once again I tried everything I could think of and once again I rang Apple who ran further diagnostics to check if the problem was with the Mac mini. But of course this once again drew a blank. What to do I ask?

Not another long drawn out telephone conversation with a Dell person who hadn't a clue and who I could barely understand. I was dreading it! I was just about to contact Dell when I tried Googling my problem. Lo and behold I found someone else had a similar problem last year. The reply from the Dell representative suggested a possible remedy which involved switching everything off removing the cables and running some tests. I didn't expect this to work but I tried it and surprise surprise the fix suggested did the trick and the U2722DE is now working again via the USB-C port.

My point in this post is that I wasted an awful lot of time trying to resolve this problem. Dell replaced the U2722DE which is fine but it happened again so this is clearly a recurrent problem which needs addressing by Dell. Their technical people should be made aware of it to save everybody a lot of time and money. My concern now is whether this will be a frequent occurrence because if it is there must be either a hardware fault or perhaps a firmware problem which needs fixing with these U2722DE.

Are you saying that the no cables/hold power button fixed the issue?

* Turn the U2722DE and all PC's off
* Disconnect every cable and device from the U2722DE (including the power cable)
* Press and hold the U2722DE power button for 8 seconds
* Reconnect the cables, turn the PC on, then the U2722DE

Also, check this helpful video on how to fix monitor issues:

Yes it has resolved the issue for now but for how long and why is it happening at all? It is by chance that I came across the thread on the internet. If it is a well known issue then Dell should make this known to at least their own staff!

Guess what,I have just switched the computer on and the monitor is showing the error again!. This is unacceptable.

If you have already installed the March 10, 2023 firmware M3T107 and still have the issue, your only option is to get it exchanged.

Click the DELL-Cares username. On the right, click, "Send this user a private message". Share the private Service Tag and all of your troubleshooting with them.

I have installed the firmware suggested so I will see if that fixes the monitor error permanently. I will let you know if it is still ok after a month.
