U2719DC, 2018 MacBook Pro, no USB-C signal

I'm trying the simplest setup described here =

Using a Dell UltraSharp USB-C Monitor with a Mac

Screen Shot 2020-06-22 at 1.53.11 PM.png

When I connect my U2719DC, I see the following message:

dca1a697-6714-4101-9eda-1112ce433695.png

Things I tried:

  • Hard reset the monitor
  • search for drivers as described here
  • force detect displays by going into System Preferences > Display (holding Option) > Detect Displays
  • reset NVRAM
  • reset SMC

The U2719DC works. I used it a few months with my old 2015 MacBook.

It was connected through MacBook mDP > hub with DP output > DP cable you shipped with the U2719DC > U2719DC DP.

Thank you for your help.

The cable that Dell shipped with this monitor works with my MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018). I didn't connect the Monitor to the MacBook properly. While connecting the cable to the monitor was fairly easy and smooth I can't say the same about connecting it to the MacBook Pro.

I already ordered a Thunderbolt 3 cable that works as well.

Some things to keep in mind if someone is struggling with the same problem and uses USB Type-C for the first time:

- while trying to connect Dell's cable to the monitor you might have the feeling that you pushed the cable all the way through but you didn't.

- unlike any other cable you've used in the past few decades, USB Type-C in MacBook Pro has to *click* to be fully connected

- Apple's Thunderbolt 3 cable gives me the feeling that it has the right size and it'll connect. I think it's smaller than Dell's cable, and it connects/disconnects much easier with my Mac Book Pro.

@DELL-CaresI would consider reaching out to your hardware department and doing a comparison between your USB Type-C cable and Thunderbolt 3, I can imagine that they're different in size.

Hello,

I recently bought this U2719DC. I opted for this model because of the USB Type-C connector that I expected to work with my MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018).

The problem is that it doesn't. When I connect the U2719DC to my MacBook Pro with the USB Type-C cable that Dell shipped with its monitor, the monitor shows "No USB Type-C signal from your device".

I tried:

  • hard reset the monitor
  • look for mac drivers
  • force detect displays by going into System Preferences > Display (holding Option) > Detect Displays
  • reset NVRAM
  • reset SMC

Thank you in advance.

Per the sticky, "Dell monitor, Apple FAQ", have you also posted the issue on the Apple Forum to get their advice? A simple search out there shows 13 threads. Dell-Admin

Are you using the charging adapter/cable that came with the MacBook Pro? Try using the USB Type-C cable that came with the U2719DC.
