U2417H, dual, DA300, HP Spectre, no daisy chain?

I have two dell monitors U2417H connected to my HP spectre laptop usb c port through adapter. I have connected my first monitor through dp to mdp. Second one is out dp to mdp. I have enabled mst and ensured DP 1.2 is enabled on 1st and disabled on 2nd. The display is mirrored on 2nd monitor but I am unable to extend it. My laptop shows both of them as 2. The first being laptop's own display. Please I have tried all the suggestions from various threads to no avail. Please help me.

@Lookingforaway  What exact "adapter" are you using to connect your two displays to your system's USB-C port?  Daisy chaining requires DisplayPort MST support, and some adapters do not support passing through DisplayPort MST even if the source system and the displays would support it.  In that case, you can't run a daisy chain.  And mirrored output is what you get when you have a correct cabling setup for daisy chaining but no actual hardware support for daisy chaining.  The adapter is probably the problem here.  If you got a USB-C to DisplayPort cable and connected that directly to your system, it would work.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using this Dell universal adapter link : https://www.amazon.in/dp/B079Z5CJCJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_73MH2TP9259N1YER99JQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

So you are suggesting I use a usb type c to Display port cable instead of adapter? Can you please suggest any specific one I need to buy? Thanks again. I appreciate your time.

@Lookingforaway  Happy to help. That DA300 adapter does NOT support daisy chaining, so that is your issue. It only supports a single external display, even if you’re only using the DisplayPort output on the adapter itself.

USB-C to DisplayPort cables are widely available, and there’s nothing special you need to look for in order to run your setup. I see that you sent an Amazon.in link, and unfortunately I don’t have experience with the vendors offering products there, so I can’t give you a specific product recommendation. But again, for your purposes any USB-C to DisplayPort cable will be suitable, so just buy a product made by a vendor with a reputation for quality products.

But be aware that you will need to connect this cable DIRECTLY to the system, which means that if your system only has one USB-C port, you won’t be able to use that adapter at all anymore. You cannot connect this cable to the USB-C port on your adapter.
