U2415 three, XPS 15-9550, Daisy Chain using HDMI

Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to alter my triple monitor Ultrasharp U2415 setup by using my laptop's HDMI out port instead of the thunderbolt out port.

My current working setup is:

XPS 15-9550 USB Type-C out port --> USB Type-C to DP adapter -> DP to mDP cable -> #1 U2415 mDP in port (DP 1.2 Enable)

#1 U2415 DP out port --> U2415 DP to mDP cable --> #2 U2415 mDP in port (DP 1.2 Enable)

#2 U2415 DP out port --> U2415 DP to mDP cable --> #3 U2415 mDP in port (DP 1.2 Disable)

What I want:

XPS 15-9550 HDMI out port --> HDMI to mDP cord -> #1 U2415 mDP in port (DP 1.2 Enable)

#1 U2415 DP out port --> U2415 DP to mDP cable --> #2 U2415 mDP in port (DP 1.2 Enable)

#2 U2415 DP out port --> U2415 DP to mDP cable --> #3 U2415 mDP in port (DP 1.2 Disable)

What I want is: Is this setup possible? I ordered a hdmi to mDP cord, but couldn't get it to work with the 3 monitor setup. Do I need to use a special type of HDMI to mDP cord, or is there some trick to get this setup to work? The reason I want to use HDMI instead of the thunderbolt port on my XPS is because I usually use my thunderbolt for charging my phone or for my thunderbolt ethernet adapter.

Great post! Very clear. But no, the usage of the XPS 15-9550 HDMI out port breaks all daisy chaining. In fact ANY usage of HDMI in any part of the setup (Laptop, Monitor 1,2,3) will break daisy chaining. An HDMI to DP cable or HDMI to mDP cable still breaks the chain because the source was HDMI.

Daisy chaining can only be done from a laptops source USB Type-C out port, DP out port, or mDP out port. And then the monitors DP in, mDP in, and DP out ports. In the specific case of the XPS 15-9550, the USB Type-C out port is the only option.

Good to know! In that case, I will buy a usb 3.0 to ethernet adapter for my xps so I can daisy chain using my usb type c output and have ethernet at the same time.
