S2417DG, AMD Radeon R9, DP, 144Hz

Hi guys! I just want to say that I have already read similar topics here, but the solutions indicated in them (turning off the power saving mode, etc.) did not solve my problem... And I want to apologize for my English :)

So... I have the following problem. Monitor Dell S2417DG. It was previously connected by HDMI. Subsequently, having decided to achieve 144 Hz, I connected it through Display port. For about a day I was fiddling with the black screen problem and switching to power saving mode after loading Windows, but to my surprise, this problem disappeared by itself, simply turning off the computer for 24 hours. However, the problem was not completely solved. The fact is that in the settings of the screen and the monitor, when the 144 Hz is selected, the monitor immediately goes back into power saving mode (but it is disabled!). It doesn't matter what resolution I set, 800x600 or maximum 2560x1440. I tried everything that is possible... If someone faced the same problem, I hope for your help :) Neither the monitor, nor the processor, nor the video card was not overlocked, everything works in drain mode.

PC specifications:
Intel Core i5-4570, 3400 MHz; ASRock Z87 Pro3 (bios 2.90); AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (4 Gb), 8GB (2x4) DDR3 Crucial, Windows 7x64

Thank you all for the help! Have a nice day!

* For my notes, click my DELL-name and private message me the S2417DG service tag number and 20 digit alphanumeric serial number so I can check its warranty and age

You are using a non-validated AMD video card with the S2417DG Nvidia G-Sync monitor. Using that non-validated AMD video card, Dell will only verify that the S2417DG functions at 60Hz. Does the S2417DG function when set to 60Hz?

Correct. We tried to prepare buyers in our sales and other documentation about the Nvidia video card requirement.

Let's start with the S2417DG sales site. Zero references to AMD, but five to Nvidia.

In this article, How to Use and Troubleshoot the Dell S2417DG Gaming Monitor, it states;

"Nvidia G-SYNC enabled and Nvidia 3D Vision Ready monitor, with a extremely high refresh rate of 144Hz (165Hz with overclock) and a rapid response time of 1 ms."
Notice no mention of AMD video cards.

Later it does mention AMD in a negative light;
"The Dell S2417DG monitor may not be able to display at an optimal resolution when connected to a PC with an AMD graphics/video card. To resolve this issue, disconnect the display cable (HDMI or DisplayPort cable) and reconnect the cable to the monitor."

The online S2417DG User's Guide also makes no mention of AMD. It only references Nvidia.

Ohh...Ok, I understood... I never would have thought that there are monitors for specific video cards... I thought that all compatibility problems are solved by software and high-quality cables.. So, I myself was mistaken when I bought this monitor for my old, but powerful enough video card, without looking at the impossibility of achieving 144 Hz with AMD cards...:TongueTied:

I don’t even know what to do with this monitor or this video card... And where can I see the compatibility of my monitor with other video cards?

Yes, it works through both HDMI and DisplayPort. But 144Hz does not work through the display port, when I try to set this parameter, the monitor immediately goes into sleep mode (power saving mode)...

My video card supports 144 Hz... Do I understand correctly that you want to say that my card is not compatible with this monitor?:Indifferent:

Any of the Nvidia 10 series video cards would work.

Hey. Tell me please, I found about the same monitor, model Dell S2719DGF, as I understand it supports my video card (AMD Freesync technology), while it has almost the same characteristics as my D24 S2417DG, but why my monitor is more expensive and valued higher? What is the fundamental difference, except for the support of AMD and NVIDIA, overpayment only for 165/155 Hz and 3D support? Thanks for the answer!

$569 S2417DG has the customized Nvidia G-SYNC module installed in it.

$529 S2719DGF has the generic/standard module installed in it.
