Red dots/lines in darker parts of an image

I am getting red dots and red lines in the darker parts of photos and other images on my monitor. The red dots/lines are not present in the source. The dots/lines are seemingly more dense in the darker/blacker areas of the images.
I have a 1905 FP display taking Digital input from an NVIDIA Geforce 6800 card in a Dimension 8400.
It sounds like a contrast problem...but I can't seem to adjust the contrast : in the "Brightness" section of the On Screen Display menu for the monitor, "Contrast" is not highlighted or accessible.
I have performed a factory reset on all settings via the OSD menu....but this doesn't fix the problem.
I would really appreciate your help. Many thanks....

I have seen a 2405 with that issue. Lanvo obviously is suffering from some disorder with that friendly response. Likely, mommy needs to increase the meds, take away his favorite RPG games, and stop letting the uncle have so much alone time with him....However, you do want to rule out the vid card. If you can, try the monitor on another pc. That would help eliminate the vid card. I can say that the one I saw was likely being sent back as the problem was seen on 2 other vid cards. Also take a look at this thread: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&message.id=68851
You may find more settings that can be adjusted via the factory hidden menus. Check the forums for ways to access these menus for your model.

If you could, post a screen shot of the problem.

Anyways...good luck

Thanks Vervel....haven't tried swapping screens yet....but I did downlaod the latest driver from NVIDIA.

This driver has the ability to control contrast...and when I reduce the contrast...the red dots/lines disappear..

Still not sure of the root cause of this problem suddenly appearing....but it's under control for the time being....thanks.
