Dell SE178WFPc Problems

so i got a SE178WFPc monitor from a friend it was working fine for a couple days but today turned my pc on and it was flickering on start-up (left side of screen) and all areas with text were really fuzzy, after about 20-30 seconds it just went black nothing else happened, but the flickering lines I mentioned before were faintly visible (still on the left of the screen) not sure what the problem could be back on my old monitor for now. was going to try getting a new VGA cable see if that helps but thought id ask here first. Also the power light was still blue and all connections were in properly.

hope you can help thanks

My PC specs are also really low but will be getting a new tower next week... can pc performance affect monitors in the areas said above?

Hi gcgood92,

Display issues may occur due to an issue with the monitor or with the video card on the tower. Let us run hardware diagnostics on the monitor to check monitor's functionality. If the monitor passes the test, we will try to re-configure the monitor settings to fix the issue. If that does not work, it may be an issue with the video card on the tower. The video drivers may have to be re-installed.

1. Your monitor provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether it is functioning properly. Please follow the troubleshooting steps listed below:
- Turn off both your computer and the monitor
- Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove the Analog (blue connector) cables from the back of computer
- Turn on the monitor
- The floating 'Dell - Self-Test Feature Check' dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background) if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains blue. Also, depending upon the selected input, one of the dialogs shown below will continuously scroll through the screen

- Please check if the 'flickering line' are visible on this screen as well. If yes, it indicates a hardware issue with the monitor. If the display appears fine, we will re-configure the monitor's software settings.

2. Optimize the monitor performance to fix configuration settings:
Perform monitor's factory reset (Refer to the image below):
- Under OSD menu options, please navigate to 'Factory Reset'
- Select 'Factory Reset'
- Select 'All Settings' and re-check

If the issue persists, try 'auto-adjust' feature on the monitor:
Use auto-adjust button to activate automatic setup and adjustment. The following dialog will appear on screen as the monitor self-adjusts to the current input:

If issue still persists, try adjusting 'Phase and Pixel clock' settings on the monitor:
- Access 'OSD' main menu
- Navigate to 'Image settings'
- 'Phase and Pixel Clock' adjustments allow you to more closely adjust your monitor to your preference.
-

If issue persists, please check for any bent or broken pins on the monitor and also on the video cable connectors.

3. If no bent/broken pins are visible, re-install video card driver of your tower
Re-install Video Card driver: If the current video card driver is corrupt, updating it may not work. Follow the steps listed below to re-install the device driver:
- Click Pearl/Start Icon
- Click 'Run'
- Type 'devmgmt.msc' (without quotation)
- Hit 'Enter' Key
- Device Manager Page opens up
- Expand option 'Display Adapters'
- Right click video card and click 'Uninstall'
- Place tick mark in check-box that states 'Also remove the software'
- Restart the system

- Download the latest graphic card driver for your computer
- Save the file on 'Desktop'
- Right click the file and click 'Run as an administrator' (If appears; else click 'Run')
- Click 'Yes' to the 'User Access Control' prompt (If appears)
- Follow through with the installation of the driver
- Restart the computer and check again

Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.
