Daisy chain two monitors with PC and laptop

Hi community,

I am wondering if the setup below is feasible?

Capture.JPG

Will there be issues with different refresh rates 144Hz vs 60Hz?

I am currently using the setup with just one monitor connected, two PC (over DP) and laptop (HDMI), and keyboard is connected over USB hub with two sources that allow switching.

My laptop can't handle DP, therefore USB Type-C seems to be the only option in this case.

@kraart  If you want to have USB peripherals plugged into the display that will also be usable by your "PC", then you'll need a USB cable between the display and PC, since the DisplayPort cable you'll be using for the PC doesn't carry USB data.  That means you'll need a display that has a USB-C port for your laptop and a separate "upstream" USB interface to connect to a second system.  Some Dell displays have this, while other displays use the USB-C port as the only upstream USB data interface, which won't work if you want to use USB peripherals with two systems.

In terms of 144 Hz + 60 Hz, running mixed refresh rates isn't an issue by itself, but you still need to make sure that the total bandwidth requirements of the displays in the daisy chain fit within the bandwidth available from the source output running the daisy chain.  The amount of bandwidth available will depend on the systems and displays -- and potentially whether you're ok having only USB 2.0 rather than 3.x data over USB-C, if the displays support configuring that.  The amount of bandwidth required will depend on the resolutions of the displays.  Unfortunately, none of that information was provided.

Thank you very much for the response.

I plan to have both monitors being 1080p

when it comes to connecting peripherals will Dell P2419H do the job?

@kraart Dual 1080p 60 Hz would be fine.  1080p 144 Hz + 1080p 60 Hz might not work.  Again it depends on the details of your systems.  In terms of peripherals, your diagram shows that you would be connecting those to a 144 Hz display that has a USB-C input for your laptop.  The P2419H is a 60 Hz display and doesn't have a USB-C input.  The P2419HC has a USB-C input, but it's still a 60 Hz display, and it also doesn't have a separate USB upstream interface that would allow you to connect that other system.  So that would not work.  The U2422HE has a USB-C input and a separate upstream USB data port, but that's still a 60 Hz display.

Many thanks for the detailed response.

Is there a 24'' 1080p Dell monitor which has at least 144hz refresh rate (240hz would be even better) and upstream interface?

@kraart  The only Dell displays I found with 144 Hz refresh or higher that had a USB upstream interface did not have a USB-C input or a daisy chaining output.  So I can't find a Dell display that would meet all of your requirements.
