2007FP/2007WFP: Experiences with Composite and S-Video inputs?

What are your experiences with the video-inputs of the 2007FP or 2007WFP?

Did you ever have problems with a "signal out of range"? That's what I am experiencing at the moment with the 2007FP I just received:

My digital camera and DVD-player work without any problems, but when I connect my old trusty C64 to it (tried both Composite and S-Video), I don't get any display.
The signal is PAL (50hz), resolution is 320x240.
When I connect my Commodore Amiga to the 2007FP (Composite), I only get a display when I switch to NTSC and when I select a resolution above 640x200.
Since I bought the 2007FP in Europe, it *should* be able to handle PAL video-input.

At work, I am using a 2005WFP and it is able to display all of the above mentioned signals without any problems. Do I have a broken video-input, or are there any known changes that were made regarding the video-input (Chris?).
I am also very much interested if anybody of you made similar experiences.

Hi Qua,

I'm also a PAL user of the 2007WFP who has noticed similar behavior. Sometime when I plug a classic console into s-video or composite the monitor enters a state where it's clearly trying to display the signal, but not getting it right - I just get an occasional flash of the s-video or composite icon in the top left-hand corner and a black screen. I found two things to try:

1) Set the stretch mode to 1:1. I found this would sometimes display the image - you can set it back to 4:3 or fill once you've got an image.

2) Once the monitor has tried (and failed) to display an image, don't turn it off, but unplug and reconnect the s-video or composite cable. I've found this works every time. YMMV.

Hope this helps.

I am also having this problem. I have tried both the workarounds above but with no luck.

Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks a lot for the reply. At least it's always got to hear that I am not the only one with this problem.

What kind of inputs or consoles were you using? It might be that the 2007-models are very strict regarding any noise in the input signal and cut off the input.

I had no luck displaying C64 or Amiga PAL-video. The icon in the top left corner flickered and then quickly disappeared.

Problem is, that I cannot even access the menu when there isn't any input, that's why your first workaround wouldn't work.

But I'll try your second suggestion and report back if it helps.

If there are others with a similar problem, please report in this thread!

Ah, yes, the first workaround won't work without signal. I have a Yamaha AV receiver plugged into the monitor via s-video which always generates a reliable signal (a grey background if there is no other video signal) and I can get to the menu. Sorry about that one. It might be worth plugging something like a VCR or DVD player in to get a stable signal to access the menu?

The consoles I've tried are:

Sega Master System: no picture until unplug/replug of video cable (a composite signal that the A/V receiver converts to s-video). I have had success with starting the display in 1:1 mode then changing it later.

Sega Saturn: always displays the intro animation and CD player screen, but dies when a game starts up (probably changes to a different resolution). Unplug/replug video cable fixes this one (composite signal converted to s-video).

Sega Dreamcast: works perfectly everytime (native s-video signal).

I suspect the problem is one of timings. I believe that this monitor is much like every other LCD in that it operates at 60Hz only - whatever converts the PAL50Hz signal to something the monitor can display is a bit sensitive to the video signal input into it. Maybe many of these older devices generates a signal that isn't quite to spec.

Sorry vershner; I don't know of anything else to try.

I have this same problem on 2 monitors

When I try in on PiP mode, it gives the message "Out of range signal. Cannot disoplay this video mode, change computer display input to 1600x1200 @ 60Hz"
