Linux on Alienware R14

Wondering if anyone else has installed and is using Linux on an R14.

I have noticed suspend to RAM seems disabled.

specifically have noticed:

 run “sudo cat /sys/power/mem_sleep” and gotten response on new computer

“s2idle”

expected:

“s2idle [deep]”

@macliond

Dell does not support Linux on ANY Alienware model.

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000138246/

Dell only provides support for Precision Models that come shipped with Redhat, Ubuntu, Suse, etc from Dell.

There is support from Dell, Redhat, Canonical etc but its not free.

Note: Dell has no interest in stopping you from installing Linux on any of its computers. However, if you purchase a computer and replace its operating system, then your warranty may require you to reinstall Windows if anything goes wrong. Returning it to purchased state before any software troubleshooting can be done on that particular computer.

That is why installing Linux alongside windows is recommended or removing the factory storage and using a new blank hard drive.

your message did not provide any useful information. I already know about Dell's Linux position. I have operated a number of Dell computers with Linux installed. Ever hear the phrase "the customer is always right." ?

I do not work for Dell. I too am a user.

I hope Alienware changes it's policy regarding Linux and other OS.  In light of the changes to windows over the years, some of us grow uncomfortable with it.
