Latitude 7240 0 SD card slot suddenly not working

Win 10 22H2 12/9/2020 19045.4842 Win Feature 1000.19060.1000.0

Dell Latitude E7240

The card slot has been fine and was last time we used it 2 weeks but now it doesn't see the mini card.

I have put the actual card into another USB reader to test it and it shows all the files just fine and they are accessible but when it is in the Dell PC slot, it doesn't work.

In Explorer is shows at SD Card but after searching, it says insert a card even though it is inserted.

I did a Win 10 Repair from an ISO but it is the same.

The SD card shows in Explorer however.. when I click it, the green bar shows then the SD entry disappears.
Then it comes and goes.

In Device Mgr under  Disk Drives it shows as SDXC SCSI Disk Device
Under Storage controllers it shows as..  BayHub MMC/SD controller

In System it shows.. 22H2  6/9/24   19045.3803    Win Feature 19053

Most of the links in the Admin Start Menu do not work.

I see in Event Viewer this which I assume is the SD slot.
It was not possible to access the device (\\?\swd#wpdbusenum#_??_scsi#disk&ven_&prod_sdhc_#5&b379cec&0&000000#{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}#{10497b1b-ba51-44e5-8318-a65c837b6661}) after installing drivers. Error code 0x80070002.
At times it says similar to.. 'Please insert a disk into removeable D:'

I have tried many standard size and mini cards with same result, so surely it must be the driver for the slot ?

Any help please?

Well after trying many many things decided to check the Dell site to see if they had any drivers.

I found one for the card but it was from 2015.

I decided to install it anyway, and now the cards slot does work.

Possibly the Win 10 Updates overrode it and that's why it stopped working.

I also noticed that Driver Easy has an update for the same file, but until I hear from Dell, I will not upgrade as this original on works fine.

From now on if something just stops working I will go to the manufacturer site to see what drivers they have before I spend days trying everything else.

For Dell..

If Driver Easy or Win Update present a new driver is it always best to update ?  Seems like they overrode the original one that's why it stopped working, or ?
